How can I add more reactors to ship?
My ship cost 400k but is still useless in combat (gets 1 shotted by enemies..)

I'm trying to upgrade it now, required power is 51 but I only got 23. When I add another reactor it doesnt work, says I can only have 1 reactor. How am I then ever supposed to be able to have a decent ship? From what I can see, not even the later ones have any decent power output? Are you stuck with useless ships throughout the game? Do I need to mod the game to make ships useful?

How do you even make a ship that needs 60 power? You can only give 12 to each subsystem anyway and there's no reason to have more than maybe 18 in weapons which translates to 6 weapons. Full power to engines and shields and you're at 42. The grav drive doesn't need power unless you actually intend to jump.

You could buy the Stronghold ship at Akila City. It's got the strongest shield in the game and a lot of hull HP. Costs 400K credits though, but you can sit back and destroy pretty much any other ship in the game at your leisure.

How much cargo space does it have? I'll probably do this.

Shame we can't really build our own ships though, that feature turned out to be pretty much a lie.

I would have thought the dialog on the screen saying quite clearly "You may only have one reactor per ship" was pretty clear.

...which is kinda reasonable. It's clear Bethesda wants to gatekeep the more powerful ships behind a skill point requirement. ...which makes perfect sense because I was totally ready to start playing "VERY NOT FAIR" with eight laser turrets and four missile launchers just because I had 100,000c to burn. But it would have definitely trivialized all the space combat and made things boring with a quickness if we were allowed to just cover the starter ship in guns because we added extra reactors.

The stronghold comes with 2.360 cargo.

You can build your own ship. You just need to start with an existing ship and delete all the parts. Class C reactors do go up to 40, but I'm not sure what level those unlock at.

reactors make no sense. there is an A Class reactor that has 20 energy, and the highest class B reactor I found is 21 energy. I think I am just going to keep using console commands, because this game design is only meant to take the fun out of the game.

51 power? your engineering crew mist hate you.
Jamos Sep 11, 2023 @ 5:11pm
get the mod on nexus that lets you add an infinite amount of reactors

Lol, they work really well right now.

Not realy. Plenty of Good reactors get unlocked on higher character level. And if you don't want to wait, you can get the free ship from ranger questline. It has 34 power on Class A.
If 40 is the max power output, then yeah, mods are needed. I was building something good but affordable, and power requirements were close to 60. Late game, when i'm rich and just want to have an OP ship for fun, I can easily see myself building something that requires 100+ or even 1000+ in power.

So if 40 is max power, then the game is limited to the point of making it boring. Just like how settlements in Fo4 were useless before modding (you could place 3 items and then capacity was reached, wanted to build and style an actual house? Yeah not without mods. It's sad to see they haven't learned this yet.
Technically 45+a few is the max power from reactor, skills, and companion bonuses. Also you can only allocate a maximum of 60 power to all equipment capable of being used in combat.

Each section has a max power of 12, you have 3 weapons slots, engines, shields and grav drive. Since grav drive does nothing in combat, that is 5 pieces of equipment with a maximum of 60, though realistically, you would probably be much less than that.

Even at 30 power I am kind of wrecking stuff with quad mount alpha beams and some superheavy missiles. Once I get a more powerful reactor, I could just go straight 8 alpha beams(different types) and be an unending barrage of high powered shots.

Play more, as you level up the shops unlock more equipment for your ship, I've seen 30 power Class A's I think. I'm using a Class C with 30 power but can see some with 34's already but don't have the design level for those yet.

No. Learn to play the game.

Basically you get lvl 60 and max piloting and ship building and then you can get a 40 power reactor. you basically dont power the grav drives UNLESS you are jumping this then will give you almost full power to all weapons and sheilds.

1) Crew - crew like Sam Coe have lvl4 piloting. it give you one extra power. Aneutronic Fusion also allow ship produce extra power.
2) Skill - Aneutronic Fusion in science skill tree provide extra power. don't know does it stack with crew's one
3) Balance power output - some weapon recharge really faster you don't need full power on it to be effective and spam it anyway. sometime it work fine by assign even 40-50% power
4) upgrade reactor - more juice, more power
5) decrease mass - decrease mass do increase mobility. if you have mobility of 100, 50% of power still fly faster than mobility of 40 on 100% power
1) Piloting has no effect on reactor power.
2) Aneutronic Fusion does in fact stack. My ship has 43 reactor points with my 2 levels and Vasco's 1 level.
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) Mobility has literally nothing to do with speed, it's how quickly your ship can pitch, yaw and roll, power level to engines has almost no affect on this.

It's literally impossible to have a ship that requires 100 power, let alone 1000+.
Each subsystem's maximum power requirement is 12, there's 6 subsystems, totaling 72 power. Your character can increase the power output of you reactor by 5 at max aneutronic fusion. Vasco has 1 level in the skill also, and it appears to stack with your own skill, giving you a possible 46 power (assuming you don't get lucky and find a random crew member with better levels in the skill). You don't need full power in your engines if you're using the right ones, and you don't need constant power to your grave drive. You also don't need 3 fully powered weapon systems. 4 Class C missile launchers will 2-3 shot almost everything (and this is in level 75 systems) with the help of a couple of lasers stripping the shields while you wait for a target lock, So it's already possible to make an OP ship without any mods at all. You just have not be $h1t at ship building,

Higher levels and ship design skill will make more modules available.
I currently have a class B ship, 31 power (1 from skill) and it is enough to power all systems fully except for grav drive

What are you talking about. Just pick a better reactor. The choice you have depends on the location and some of your skills, as well as your level.

Max is 40? So you can never really build anything.
