How do I target a ships engines?

Its come up as part of the plot but it doesn't explain how I do it. (or if it did it was hours and hours ago and I have forgotten).

I am using mouse and keyboard. Online help tells me to push X on the gamepad......but Im not using a gamepad.

Keyboard is "R" but u need a skill from the last tree first row

The ability to target specific ship parts is actually one of the skills in the Tech section that you specifically need to unlock.

If we’re thinking of the same mission, it will automatically do it if you don’t have the skill (just shoot the ship), I think. Beyond that, if you want that ability you have to unlock that skill.

Crap, I might need to load from an earlier save as I dont have the skill and I dont want to destroy Moara's ship as I think that will fail the quest.

You won’t destroy it, we are thinking of the same mission, just shoot at it and it will get disabled even if you don’t actually have the skill (for that mission).
