Storage in this game is cancer
not only do i have to make like 10 billion containers i have to make separate containers for each category of items and each container can hold ♥♥♥♥ all, fallout 4 and skyrim has infinite storage so it blows my mind why they didnt do it in starfield. bethesda devs stuck in their smooth brain fallout 76 mind set i guess.

There are definately issues. Just the beginning Storage Containers (Solid) holds only 74 out of 90 Mass. And it starts 3 Mass in the red so you are only able to store 70-71 mass. That is just unconsciounable. I don't want free or endless, but if you aren't even going to follow your own rules, then why should I?

I have been dumping my excess materials in the Lodge Basement, there is an endless Container on the Table near the workbenches. The safe in your quarters upstairs is also endless.

I like the game, but it's a huge design flaw you can't access your cargo from The Lodge, and it sounds like outpost storage is laughable.

Why they went with this inventory/storage system if theirs is a conundrum. I think they tried to be clever and innovative without noticing it's actually irritating crap.

There's an upgrade you can get for your ship that gives 450 mass when you make it to New Atlantis. Talk to the technician and modify your ship for 8000 credits

Yeah Storage containers probably need to be buffed. Meanwhile the cheesy workaround is to just dump everything in the containers near the crafting stations in the Lodge because they have infinite space.

The most absurd thing about it is that this is a game in space, with incomprehensible room.

anouther cheese workaround is the inventory command

player.setav carryweight xxxxx

replace the X's with whatever you want inventory to be limited at.... fixes all the inventory limit issues

I mean the ships having inventory weight limits makes sense, but ground based containers like at a outpost should not.

Downside here is having to always go back there which gets annoying.

Solution is here:

Use the unlimited storage in the Lodge basement next to the benches.

Pro tip: Use this mod Increased Ship Transfer Distance to manage inventory: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1395

You can Fast Travel to the Lodge basement and easily manage moving your ship inventory to the infinite storage boxes. No more round trips to empty the ship cargo before heading out. Also works on missions, when you need to unencumber by moving some cargo to the ship hold so you can fast travel.

Bonus is it does not affect the achievements like console commands will.

One of the best QOL mods out there, next to StarUI.

Also works looting facilities or on missions.
+
If you haven't done the Mantis mission yet make sure you save/reroll to get the Mantis suit with mechanical + other stats. I have +40 on the suit and +20 on the helmet.

Once you get a ship with 2K+ storage just dump it all in there, and you can still use the lodge for any excess if you ever need it.

Extra Bonus: Sell from your ship inventory anywhere;-)

Yes agreed it is pure cancer. If you dont make outpost, you are flooded with resources junk that you dont know what to do with it. Lodge container is not link to your inventory so you will still need to walk there and take it out each time. It is a friking waste of time.

No, ground based containers should absolutely have a weight (volume) limit.
Resources that one whats to be usable need to be securely stored.
Otherwise gases will dissipate, liquids evaporate or flow away and most solids will react in one fashion or another in the various adverse environments one finds on planets.

I'm frankly carrying WAY too much stuff and I've only filled half of my 5000 ton spaceship.
Sounds like you all need to upgrade your carry weight, upgrade you ships cargo capacity and/or improve your base building so you can build larger outpost storage.

The other option is haul around less ♥♥♥♥. Never pick up misc. Dont grab gear that you are not going to use and purge your aid menu regularly.

No, you don't. Read the post 2 above "Solution is here:". Easy.

Here is another tip. Ditch the Default Resources (Usually .5). Go with with Natural Resources. They weigh from .4 to .05 ; all sap works the same for use purposes, all toxins, cosmetics, ect.

I understand if I want better storage I need to perk Outpost design or whatever.

Like I said before, I don't what to cheat. I WANT WHAT I AM DUE, If you are docking me 19 mass out of 90 per large Storage, that is unacceptable.
Stoo Sep 24, 2023 @ 7:21pm
They copied No Man's Sky storage from the early versions along with the stupid obvious problems that comes with it. NMS stopped being stingy with resources and space and the game is actually fun now. Starfield is a game stuck in 2005.
I believe the upstairs large storage container in the Razoreleaf is unlimited.
