Intel users disable hyperthreading and E cores
You will get a fps boost, This games frametimes and optimization are not good on Intel and the performance will be worse if you let the game see your E cores as well.

How to do that? Go into your bios and disable all the E cores and Hyperthreading. When done with Starfield reenable them. P.S this behavior has been observed since Battlefield 3 and really everyone should experiment on a per game basis. AMD users should ignore this thread and keep SMT enabled.

Yeah. I think it is using my E cores instead of my P cores.

As per Digital Foundry recomendations. E or Efficency cores overwhelm the engine. 8 Performance cores performs better.

You don't need to disable the core's through BIOS. You can just set the affinity in the task manager to block Starfield from using the E-cores.

It should be noted that the FPS increase is on an artificial CPU-limited scenario and doesn't directly and automatically apply when you're highly GPU-bound.

I've tested all the 8 P Cores/HT/E-ores on/off conditions using an i9-12900K and 7900 XTX at 2160p res maxed-out settings (no scaling, VRS Off), and the FPS differences between testing scenarios are minor and non-significant.

For example, at the 8 P-Cores/HT Off condition, I've even seen a slight decrease in FPS (about -1.67% - and it could be considered just testing noise) compared to what I got on the 8 P-Cores/HT On/ 8 E-Cores scenario.

So, based on my testing, I'd say that the recommendation about disabling HT and E-Core should best apply to 12/13th Gen Intel CPU users who run the game in CPU-bound conditions: for example, using a high-end GPU at lower than a 2160p res and low-to-medium settings (or DF's optimized settings).

On games/graphics engines where CPU scaling is limited or poor, the more CPU-bound you are or want to stay, the higher benefits in raw performance you may see by disabling HT, E-Cores, or both.

Try running Intel presentmon overlay anf looking at the frametimes, There may be minor gains in gpu limited scenarios but noticeable better frametimes, And possibly better 0.1% lows? You should of used presentmon for your testing, Its the new tool.

Well, yeah. Obviously if your bottleneck is the GPU, modifying the CPU settings is gonna have minimal, if any benefits.
Worst case scenario is you try it, find no benefit and remove the modification.

if anyone is wondering an easy way to do it. I use Project Lasso, free program, to force physical cores only, games like Escape from Tarkov greatly benefit from this and the option in the game doesn't actually work lol. It also has a memory auto clean feature to help slow down memory leaks if they ever show up.

Second that. Proj Lasso is very good, even the free version.
