Efficient way to increase companion affinity?

there is also a aid buff you can take before you do something or talk to increase affinity. My issue though is where do I what affinity I have with them?

You'll probably have to use the console to find affinity.

I haven't tried it yet but most of the old console commands still work so try the FO(4) ones as a starting point.

There has to be some repeatable way, otherwise doing all quests and then talking to them would lock you out of progressing

I don't know of any repeatable actions to quickly cheese affinity, but the Leadership skill (which is at bottom tier of social) makes it change faster per action.

It did in FO(4) at least but it took forever. Affinity gains feel much faster in Starfield.
