i fixed my lag this is how!
SOLVED
(ok all my problem is solved...

1. i was wrong about my pc specs... drive 1 (c: drive) was actually a 500gb m.2 nvme drive, i was thinking it was smaller because i usually use a small drive and only put windows on it and never anything else

2. when i saw the drive was bigger i migrated all the starfield files to it since it had only windows on it because i saw someone say that helped them... and boom problem solved... ultra settings butter smooth...

idk why this fixed it since both drives are ssd, perhaps it just needs to be in the same drive as windows?)

EDIT
(ok so after reading 20-30 posts that say they are having problems also... and trying many tips and guides. i have not found a solution! and my playtime on steam is at 2 hours exactly due to just testing.. i hope i can still refund but i kinda want to wait and see if a patch will fix it in the future. however i dont want to lose my ability to refund either.

i am pretty disapointed that i could not even play it enough to form my own opinion of the game)

ORIGINAL POST
(Audio delay and lag on low settings & ssd?

when entering new areas, cut scenes, and combat, the audio is delayed badly after a momentary freeze or lag. after a few minutes it works fine again. game runs great otherwise. i have tried it on all settings types and disabled literally everything. i even went into the nvidia control panel to turn things off and or down, such as limiting frames to 30... windows game mode was turned on and game acceleration as well.

my specs...
nvidia geforce rtx 3080ti gpu
32gb ddr4 ram
12th gen intel core i9 12900kf
m.2 nvme ssd 128gb (c: drive with win 11)
m.2 nvme ssd 1tb (E: drive with games, including starfield)

any other thoughts on what might cause this)

audio delay is usually a sign of inadequate Hard drive, but given you have a NvME, maybe your RAM is too slow? you might wanna check on your RAM speed, the RAM boost settings might not be turned on in BIOS.
Another thing comes to mind is maybe your game drive is corrupted, try run a scan for errors. Also how full is your game drive? usually game drives are recommended not to exceed over 80% capacity.
Also how's your CPU/GPU temperature during game?

gpu temp hovering at around 77c ish
cpu temp hovering at about 74c ish
game drive is 42% full with no errors
ram is 6000 per stick

also forgot to say gpu driver is up to date and i even reinstalled it in case.

thanks for being the only person to reply... the rest of the forums posters are to busy fighting about nonsense to be constructive i think i am probably gonna refund while i still can unless someone comes in clutch. :ss13ok:

Intel cpus are only rated up to 3200mhz of ddr4 ram. If you're using 6000mhz maybe it's a bit unstable? I haven't had any issues and I'm using a sata ssd, other then the sub par performance all nvidia cards are getting according to digital foundry.

okay i figured i would give it another crack after reading your post... i have never had any problems with my ram before but you are right, it is a little excessive.

i had a 3200mhz Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 32GB stick in a different pc so i took out my two sticks and put in the one... no change at all.

thank you for the good suggestion though. feel free to have more ideas :P

Our systems are nearly identical, except I have a 3080, not a TI and I have 32gb of DDR5, you have 4. I don't have the issues you're having and the game is running fine in 1440p with ultra settings (Aside from shadows.) So I think the person mentioning the ram possibly being the issue might be right.

4090 GTX w/ 12900k here, ddr5 6000mhz tho, but my game is running with absolutely zero problems. only crashes when i add in some crazy settings with experimental ray tracing reshade shaders

My system is lower spec than yours but SF runs perfectly fine.
