Is there any reason to use full auto weapons?
What is the benefit of changing to full auto if it makes the gun do only 25% of its damage?
Why does making the gun shoot faster lower its damage?

Fallout 4 did this too and I really don't see the point in it. I dump an entire mag of Grendel ammo into a pirate and barely scratched it, then Sarah walks up and shoots the pirate with her pistol and kills it in a one hit. I mean... why bother with full auto? The Eon is better.

Full auto is a bit sucky at the start, but once you get your hands on some mid-grade auto weapons, it gets pretty good. At lvl 17 i'm using a modded Tombstone, and it's my go-to room cleaner at short to mid range. 30dmg per hit, in full auto, even legendaries go down in one clip on Hard. 11mm ammo also gets pretty common, especially picking it up from outlaw gangs in Akila.

It's just that low-tier guns' full auto damage is so low that it kind of gets "eaten up" by enemy armour ratings. Once the numbers get a bit higher, it comes into its own, since NPC armour doesn't keep up with better guns' per-hit dps.

And sure, with perks, semis definitely win, but if you don't want to invest too far up the Combat perk tree and focus on weapon mods in the Science tree, you can craft some pretty sweet full-auto guns and just rely on spray-and-pray. And mid to later-game, ammo really isn't an issue, since it has no weight and you can carry an infinite amount of it.

Bethesda still holds the crazy idea that a bullet fired in full auto mode does less damage than a bullet fired in semi auto mode, so there's a huge trade off

In reality, auto-fire is for suppression.

In game, since AI don't show any fear when being shot at, accuracy and ammo count have value and suppressive fire does not.

My guess is the people who make these games likely are scared of guns in real life, and have no clue.
I see that all over the gaming world.

Its also weird how SF rifles don't have a Semi/Full toggle switch, like real military rifles.

Not all FA modes drop damage. Several shotguns and pistols do not, for example, allowing a single trigger press to do thousands of damage even on a click once type shot. As I recall a click shot on this fires 3-4 at a time, or you can just empty it into the offending thing for 4k damage. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3057339191

FA is usually a poor choice but its nice in a few places. The actual dps is higher on many guns in FA, even if it wastes ammo. There are some dangerous things that killing it faster is better regardless. An example is power leveling off hostile animal swarms that are 10+ levels above you. Some critters can knock off half a health bar in a hit or two, and FA makes them try to get out of the stream of fire by zerking left & right or jumping etc. That do that single fire too but you need them dead before they get to you... just depends on the circumstances.

Full-Auto can be some sort of fun going all out with decent armor and rushing in.
Semi is more precise and prolly better if you are into "micro-management" things.

I enjoy both of it, depending on the day, my mood - or whatever.

It's a game after all.

Automatic weapons are definitely stronger than semi-automatics. Their weakness is ammo not damage, which is a weakness that does not apply to companions.

I have found that Magshear rifle to be a lot of fun. I switch my weapon load out around and sometimes I just blast away with full auto. I like the sight picture with the dot-grid, I think that is a lot of fun and I have collected about 25K rounds so I do not worry about ammo consumption. I switch to the Va'run rifle or the semi-auto version that uses the 6.5 cartridge when I want a change of pace. I wore out shotguns early so I have been switching around with those three rifles for the past 40 levels or so.

There is a good reason. You enjoy using them.

Burst is better depending on how fast you click.

Guys I have not played in months, I am waiting for mods to fix the game before I try it again. Full auto nerfing damage is only one of the many problems I had with Starfield, and it was one I could have lived with.

I have a legendary Magshear ... max modded. It is the highest-DPS weapon I have.

It speaks for itself.

I am looking forward to the 'un-nerf' mod for full auto mode. Rate of fire should NOT affect damage, accuracy, however, should suffer. Larger the caliber, the more it should suffer. (taking into account the weight of the weapon itself as well.)
