No Sudden Moves - Quest
While I have been overall enjoying Starfield for what it is as far as Bethesda game goes, I happened upon this quest today and found myself locked out of my companions and as a result forced into losing one of my companions permanently without any warning.

As soon as you acquire the quest "No Sudden Moves" you are locked out from influencing or taking your 'main story' companions with you. You and then railroaded through No Sudden Moves and its follow on quest.

Normally, I wouldn't mind such quests as long as they came with ample warning. For example "Beyond this point, interactions with your companions will be impossible and there may be consequences" or some such spoiler free warning while still giving us heads up. Really it should have prior to turning in the preceding quest to "No Sudden Moves" as that is the lockout point, as soon as "No Sudden Moves" is in your log, that's it. Better hope you had a save prior to picking it up if you want to change the outcome of it and the follow on quest.

Sadly, lacking this has resulted in me having a situation that I certainly wasn't thrilled with and its damped my enthusiasm to keep playing the game quite a bit. So, please Devs, if you can handle this forum anymore, add a warning before you pick up this quest.

Thanks.

It's worse than this. There is also a possible game-breaking bug.

If you don't complete the quest "No Sudden Moves" and do some side quests then return to steal the artifact, you will be locked out of the ship completely. No option for entry. Blowing up the ship does not resolve it either.

There is no way to progress story and you will need to revert to an earlier save before you began the quest. I noticed this well over 50 hours past the save I need to revert to. It's really bad.

The bug, more specifically, happens during the quest "No Sudden Moves" when you're on board the Scow and have convinced Petrov to see the artifact. You'll both be standing in front of it and he's not going to let you have it.

You can leave the ship at that point. Since he only gives you the option to steal it, many people playing a law abiding character may look for another option. Unfortunately after some side quests, returning to the Scow will have the door closed, no response, no access. Stuck out of the main story line.

Just to pile on something else infuriating about "No Sudden Moves." I went in with the goal of stealthy stealing the artifact. I left my companion in the museum, because I couldn't stealth adequately with Coe around. I manged to cut my way into the vault through the back way. I get the artifact, and every single guard instantly turns hostile and I hear shooting. Seriously?

I did the sneaky thing, and I get punished for it. You know what? I'm just going to murder hobo this from the front door because obviously that is the only correct way to do this quest. Every other path gets locked out to become "You have to kill everyone, idiot. Why did you bother trying to avoid this?"

AND then after you do kill him and take it upon leaving you have a 500.00 bounty and will get decimated by the uc with no hopes of survival..cant jump anywhere ..you just die over and over and over
1. You have to steal the artifact.
2. Stealth is not an option to my knowledge.
3. Enemies will turn hostile when you cut your way though the wall.

If you go the talking route you also don't have to kill anybody

Stealth is not magic like in skyrim. If in a small room a very pricey and guarded object disappears people will notice. The AI might be dumb but it is not that dumb.

During the briefing the guy talks about a burglary, not a armed robbery, I thought I can make this mission full stealth too.
I lost an hour trying to do so, first time I made a quicksave at the exact moment Barrett make something stupid and everyone shoot at us:awkward:, so had to start the whole mission from the autosave.
I made it through the safe, silently kill the only guard in the room and Immediately when I pick the artifact everyone shoots.
I don't ask for the AI to not notice it, but maybe later and send me some mercenaries, not like this, this is just absurd imo
This quest is infuriating and immersion-breaking. I'm actually going to restart and roleplay without the main quest because of this. You can't tell me that everybody in Constellation gets mad if I shoot innocent NPCs but will start me on a quest that forces me to steal an artifact and then basically just slaughter a bunch of people for no good reason at all but be totally OK with mass murder because after all, the dude was kinda sleazy, and we wouldn't have had to murder him if he'd just sold us his property?

And yeah I know Petrov is marked essential and that if you shoot him enough he'll let you leave with the artifact, but the simple fact is that there appears to be no way to complete this quest other than committing an unprovoked armed robbery and assault.

I encountered this showstopping but and will now have to wait until a patch is available.

Btw, I ended up like this because I failed the persuasion track and they attacked me... oh, and I haven't upgraded my ship at all, so I don't know why I was able to disable them so easily... 90% was attempting to flee but that didn't seem to work (they pursued me very speedily) so I turned around when my shields were out and all repairs gone, and I just had to hit them a few times and they became dead in the water...

Right? I don't get they way they coded all the companions exactly the same. When you do the quest on Neon, you have the option to let the thief go out of compassion. I thought that my empath would allow it. Nope, and even Andreja didn't like it. I mean, you were a freakin smuggler!

I wish your choice of background actually mattered for something.
shoot scow leader in head once he shows you the artifact... he surrenders... take artifact and walk out with no combat.
