Can I buy a ton of ammo anywhere?
What's the best way to quickly get like 500+ ammo of a certain type?

Is there somewhere that sells it?

or do I just need to be constantly looting ammo all the time?

There are several vendors in every city that sell ammo, but they dont have a large quantity of each. That being said low ammo is really only an issue very early on in the game. Once you get some skills and better weapons, you dont use as much ammo to kill each enemy and you can get more than enough by looting.

Make a shop run in all districts in Atlantis and you will get more than that. Unless it's rarer ammo. You can visit Neon and Akilla too since fast travel is instant.

Depends on ammo type, some are sold by the hundreds, others are sold in less than a hundred.

Buy in stores, and then you can sit on a bench for some hours, or sleep and after that the dealer has new goods.

Better to loot than buy, especially early game. I did buy a gun for which I had no ammo so did purchase it from the same vendor, but generally you should find enough in containers and on bodies to keep you loaded. If you have to buy, New Atlantis has several vendors you can buy from: Jemison (spaceport) and Centurion (residential). Akila City has Rowland Arms. Neon has Neon Tactical. Other vendors also may sell some ammo, but they will have only a few types if they do have any.

I've been doing just fine on ammo by looting enemies and ammo cans at any unfriendly 'structure' icon you find on most planets or moons.

Buying isn't amazing but if you want to stockpile a specific type it might be good to do.

I just carry like 3 or 4 main guns and swap them out in the captains locker when they run out.

i mainly used the same weapon as my enemies so when i killed them i would get the ammo i need but early on you'll see the Grendel a lot so naturally you'll get a ton of ammo for it but then you will use it all up on the next enemy. if you find the Beowulf rifle it takes the same ammo as the Grendel but does way more damage per shot, it took me 17 hours to use 1000 shots. by the time i used all the ammo for that rifle, i had thousands of bullets stocked up for my other guns. I had the Beowulf with 3 round burst and i would kill most people with 2 bursts, so 6 bullets per kill, or you could use the Grendel and use 30 bullets per kill. saves credits so you dont have to buy 10k credits worth of ammo every 5 minutes.
