Is there an Outpost Tutorial Mission?
This outpost thing is really confusing and non-intuitive. Is there some sort of mission to build an outpost with some sort of guide like from a business man or something like that?

I know I can look up on guides on the internet, but that's not really immersive for an RPG, lol

Building an outpost is the least fun ever.

I don't believe there is one that I've seen though my outpost is very small. Not something I've invested time in. Seems to be more later in the game and more useful if you have the skills and cargo hold size to mess with it.

Just a tip that took me awhile and confused me. When you setup a hab module if you want to place items inside it like crafting stations or storage just go into your scanner and hit the setup outpost option. You don't have to go to the outpost beacon.

I setup a few harvesters. You can set them up just as one offs or send their output to a storage item related to it.

And when in your scanner you can see the resources for a region if it highlights on the ground with a shade. That is where you would setup the extractors. And the circle around them I believe is the distance from a similar extractor though I think you can overlap different types.

There's videos about how to do some of the more intricate things with outposts, the game doesn't do a good job at explaining things, nor adequately communicating the cause behind the problem.

You get some popup explanations as you start building one but they aren't very useful, it's kinda just figure out for yourself. Outposts are 100% the one thing in this game that modders are going to need to fix, because even if bethesda patches some fixes it likely won't change the fundamental reasons of what makes the outposts unfun and tedious.

The max range of the building area needs to be extended imo, and the transport links really need to support transfers for more than 1 other linked base. Building more than one of these takes up an absolute metric ****ton of physical space.

Not that I know of, when you are on a planet, assuming you did at least the first main mission or two I think. open your scanner and place a beacon. That is the first step, but when placing it, think about what type of minerals you want to mine that are available. I dont mean the ones you see on the rocks but when the ground is highlighted and telling you there is iron or lithium and so on. Because that will be they type of extractors will be available for that area. You will need power, wind turbines are the quickest and easiest in the beginning. Place a storage bin near the extractor, it doesn't have to be right next to it because you should see on option, to link them by right clicking. Now your extractor will place the minerals in the storage bin, you can have multiple bins stacked. That is about as far as I got messing around with the outpost system. Hope that helps a little.

I really would’ve liked a tutorial for outposts as well, if I ever want to get into that I guess I’ll look up some guides.

Yeah, quests/tutorials would be nice. Maybe break them down into multiple quests with a bit of tutorial.

Surprisingly no there isn't one. The main quest gives you two NPC's with skills for managing an outpost but never has a mission to build one that I have seen. It's not actually that complex though since I think power is spread out automatically rather than needing you to wire everything manually like Fallout 4. So only complex part is pointing output/input from your harvesters to your storage crates.

No Mans Sky bases are 100% better imo. But I still placed like 6 outposts to "extract" stuff that I needed to unlock research stuff. But the game is so clunky and stupidly restrictive in absolutely moronic areas like storage.
