Starfield

RTX 4080 can only run the game at 30FPS at 4K
On my RTX 4080, the game is only running at 30FPS at 4k ultra setting. My CPU is Intel i5 13600k, with 64GB DDR5 RAM and the game is installed in Gigabyte AORUS NVMe PCIE SSD. I just built this new PC a few months ago and it is a beefy build.

But even with the DLSS3 and FG mod, at the 4k ultra setting the game still can't reach 60FPS. This is bad optimisation. In Hogwarts Legacy, even if I turn on Ray Tracing to the max, with DLSS and FG my RTX 4080 could easily do 80FPS at 4K ultra setting. And the graphics in this game is not better than Hogwarts Legacy. Not to mention Starfield doesn't even have Ray Tracing.

Starfield's performance is much worse than other major titles of 2023 with thirsty graphics card demand like RE4, The Last of US part 1 and Jedi Survivor (and these games don't have DLSS and my RTX 4080 could still do 60-80 FPS easily). And to be honest, while the graphics in Starfield aren't bad, but it is on the same level as those other major titles of 2023. So there is no reason for this game to be so demanding on the hardware. This game is so poorly optimized and I completely disagree with Todd's remark that people have to upgrade their PC. Because my gaming PC is definitely upper tier by 2023 standard.

So far I think Starfield is fun but the technical aspect of the game is p*ss poor. But the studio's response to the criticism on performance is bogus. This needs to be addressed!

tbh, the game aimed for 720p resolution with maxed out details and upscaling from that point on. that's how console development works nowdays. that's at least my take on it.
That's why I resist buying high end equipment, the "best" becomes average much too quickly.

Everyone was complaining about The Last of Us Part 1 back in May, but even with all the problems in that game it was still running at 55 to 65 FPS (before all the patches). But Starfield's performance is half of that.

13700k + 4080, 4K Ultra 77 FPS in Neon city, I get 100 fps in 1440p, Both at 77% FSR2.

From 4K set your resolution rendering to 75% turn FSR2 on, max everything out, get rid of all the extra crap you installed. Re-Install the game.

I did that. The FPS is now sitting between 40-50FPS out doors. Still bad.
It's a mid card. 🤷‍♀️

I changed from image setting to "let applicaiton decide" from the Nvidia control panel. Now in New Atlantis the FPS is about between 50-55. In Neon City the FPS is about 70-90FPS.

I have a 4080 on a 4k monitor and the lowest my fps dropped was 44. Usually its between 70-100. Render resolution 100%

Shoulda stepped up to the 4090 instead of cheaping out on the 4080...

This doesn't reflect actual benchmarks.

You want more FPS at 4k buy a 4090. You heard him upgrade your PC if you want better performance.

Except this game is cpu bottlenecked and needs patching.
