Is the whole VC vanguard thing rigged?

I am wondering because when I was on mars, in the city, I was randomly getting bounty just walking around not even doing anything, is this rigged to happen or something?

You're probably carrying stolen/contraband goods.

Pretty sure youd on't get bounty for carrying stolen goods, just the contraband stuff, I've walked all over new atlantis with a entire stores inventory of weapons and armor and never got any bounty, even talked to guards. P.s. that UC surplus in the wells is a goldmine for people who got sticky fingers. Even has 2 miniguns. As a bonus u can launder stolen goods by selling them to the trade authority shops then buying it right back for the same price you sold it for.

It is not rigged. Some items are marked "gold" and not red like stolen items. They are illegal. It can be easy to miss. Happened to me too.

Weird, I don't think i've ever seen a gold marked item in my inventory before. Started a new game will see if it happens again.

It is usually high dollar items like "stolen painting" or "mech parts" or "robotic plans" -- not exact words, they generally look like a thin briefcase. I have a stack on Luna - lol for when I can cash them in.

Those "gold" ones are contraband.

You can sell them without any scan in space stations. There is one in the Wolf system with a trade authority NPC just waiting for your contraband ;)

i had a similar bug during the vanguard questline going to a planet where i was told i wasnt allowed to go, but had clearance from the mission giver, i forgot the name of the planet but it might ring some bells. (it was that ice cold planet where u get a legendary armorset for this mission. very terramorph related)

i would get a 300 cred bounty for no reason, no crimes listed in my status screen, no stolen items confiscated upon getting arrested, and nothing found during the scan of my cargo. so its 100% a bug which i thought would be a trespassing bounty. ive tried paying off the bounty and then continue my mission on this frozen planet, after which i got another 300 cred bounty

edit: one reason i feel like this is a trespassing bug is because when i returned to the same planet, before landing the same ship stopped me again, to tell me "You again? i told you tou cannot land here" or something along those lines, and i had to explain again that i had orders to land on this planet
