Check for any optional updates in Windows update. Several sound drivers were updated recently by MS as standard. Could be you have one waiting to be installed.

at least it's not disconnecting both your mouse gamepad and headset so bad you need to reboot

Do you have the game on an SSD?

System requirements state you need one. I tried it on a hard drive anyway, because BG3 requires an SSD but I didn't encounter any problems on a hard drive.

I had audio cutting out frequently, massive drops in FPS, the game was constantly stuttering and freezing, and audio was out of sync with people's mouths.

Installed an SSD and transferred the game to that and all those problems were gone.

The questions is, did you install the game on one of those SSDs?

Checked your BIOS lately? I do know there were a lot of issues with audio stuttering in the last few months on several hardware configs. Amd released a chipset driver update and some vendors updated BIOS.

If you have an intel board, disregard. But still check to be sure :p
