So... The paradiso quest sucks right?
I just completed it and none of the options were satisfying and there were obvious quest routes that couldn't be taken. I even googled it to see if I'm missing something but no, that it. I completed it in the end in what seemed like the least worst way and then as icing on the cake I didn't get paid by the people who literally hired me to do this. This awful quest was no fun and lost me money while wasting a fantastic premise. I think this is the worst thing in the game I've experienced so far by a country mile. Anyone know something I don't?

Nope. If you do "the right thing", you get some junk from the ship captain and you're still out 20k. And as you said, the people who hired you make you pay for that lesser of two evils and give you zero reward. Just a weird ass quest design.

I'm in the middle of this quest right now and am frustrated by the lack of options. I thought there might be some file in the record room of the ship to support their claim to the planet considering how shallow the claim by the Paridiso's boss of it being legitimate for "years".

Since that wasn't an option I expected some kind of counter proposal by the ship's captain but nope, they simply go along with whatever you choose. I really wish there was another choice.

Maybe the quest is a setup for later DLC? Who knows really?
I completed it but it was decidedly unmemorable. They could have at least given us a swanky hotel room for a couple of nights!

Yeah it felt like the 'original claim' should have been something to investigate and find a third way through.

I'm sure somebody will be along to suggest it was a commentary on some corporate evil we all live with, doesn't make it satisfactory though.

tbh, it's probably meant as a 'no good solution' quest that Bethesda does occasionally. Look at the Tenpenny Tower quest in Fallout 3 for something similar. Doesn't make it not dumb af, though.

I don't think it's a shallow claim. Paradiso was there first and claimed it in accordance to the law agreed on by the UC and Freestar. Meanwhile the settlers merely claimed the planet in name only but have no legal claim, especially considering that any jurisdiction they might have made their claim under no longer exists.
The settlers claim to the planet is as strong as if I'd say Mars belongs only to me and no one else.

I do think i'd cool if there were some alternatives in resolving this quest, like persuading the board to share half and half of the planet or actually finding the settlers another planet and helping them set up there.

Bethesda has never been good at writing RPGs, and Starfield is probably their weakest offering yet. The whole game has been shallow and predictable. Sometimes, simple works fine and you don't need to dig into the subject matter of a questline. But sometimes Starfield will present a situation that should be complex and nuanced, but is resolved with all the care and attention of an afternoon soap opera.

It really feels like Starfield would rather be doing anything else than telling a story. : \

Look, I don't want to defend them too hard because most of their quests are mediocre but they are not bad. I mean if they gave the writing part to someone like Obisdian who broke the record with Fallout New Vegas they'd be much better off, but I think that was one of the better quests and it was meant to portray the predatory capitalistic nature of Paradiso. Hell when I joined that office meeting I couldn't help but recreate that scene from Dogma before I reloaded and complied with their requests.

That quest is sitting abandoned in my quest log, it is so bad I will never finish it and it really pisses me off to have a clogged quest log. That's a testament to how much I hate this quest chain.

Typical clumsy shoehorn of real-world politics (immigration) into the game.

I literally went to Homestead hoping there was some kind of hidden museum piece that would confirm/deny the land claim.

Nope!

Make them indentured servants, let them settle illegally, pay to make it somebody else's problem, or destroy them.

Bad writing is bad

It feels like such a shame to see the wasted potential. I've mostly been following side quests and some of them begin with a really interesting premise then the resolution simply falls flat.

After creating such detailed locations like the hotel and ship in this one, it just seems hard to believe that they couldn't create a more satisfying end to the quest line.

Yeah there is a records room on the ship, I scoured it thinking it was apart of the quest and I could find some part of the old records with their claim, I couldn't believe these options were the only ones available. Dumb quest.

The antiques sell for a decent amount and you get paid more delivering letters for them.

Yeah that quest was terrible. It seemed like such an interesting premise at first, then it was all downhill the moment I stepped through the airlock and started talking to people.

Just imagine if there was an unmarked solution (haha I know imagine that!) that required you visiting the UC archives and uncovering the original claim and then having that claim legally ratified via the lawyer in the office on the US planet and then the UC offering support as a back handed means of having a foothold on Paradiso.

Bit of a twist on the old New Reno, Redding and NCR questline from Fallout 2.

No though... That is beyond Bethesdas writing team.

I don't think bethesda has good writing in general but it sounds like a lot of you didn't like the quest mainly because it didn't reward you. That's dumb.
