The Starmap in this game is absolutely awful
I'm not sure I need to say anymore, it's *that* bad. You can't zoom out to see the galaxy, it *looks* horrible, like something from 20 years ago. It wants to rubberband all the time. I went to one system in two jumps and then trying to get back was all "route unknown, try a closer system.". The *way* closer system drew a zigged-zagged red line across half the map to get there.

It makes absolutely no sense to me.

Well it can make sense if you add in three dimensions while looking at a 2 dimension map.

But as long as your on the subject. The Local Map sucks even more.

You can fix the too far zigzag issue (although you shouldn't have to) by clicking on a closer planet to where you are currently then re-selecting the one you actually want to go to.

True, the local maps are awful, too, and no way points on planet surfaces? I can only imagine how this game would have been if released on the original date.

I swear, Elite on my Commodore 64 was easier than this game to navigate.

the whole interface is a mess in this game, they made it way too complicated compared to previous bethesda games, I am struggling to playing it cause its confusing and takes too long to do stuff

Confusing is an understatement, maybe I'm getting old, but I'm just lost in this game.

Yeah its finicky. I hate the inventory sharing between outposts and ship a pain myself.

I know I'm having a bit of a rant of this subject but I've just given up on the game for now. I can't even figure out how to get my ship from point A to point B right now.

Yeah its a bit weird, because they are showing space which is 3D on a 2D map. Basically if it is red you need to first travel to star that is closer. Generally even with the 3D/2D issue the star closest in 2D space is close enough.

Absolutely no reason to make it a 2D map, if they had bothered to rip off 1% of the functionality of Eve's janky star map system nobody would be upset

True that. X3 had an amazing 3D map of the sectors (even if otherwise it was sector to sector). You could flip the sector map from an XY view to an XZ view to figure out where you were relative to up spin and down spin in the sector.

Well, I didn't give up and now have it working. It was painful. If you could actually click on a planet and it actually *plots* a course for you, with all the jump points, that would have been a great improvement. Fuel seems pointless, too. I would have liked the old-style Elite method of fuel scoops to refuel between jumps. However, as our ships are so SLOW (less than a fighter jet) it would take forever to get to the sun!

I agree, one of the few legitimate complaints about Starfield is how terrible the in-game maps are.

It is kind of mediocre for something so large. What I would have liked is a list of all the major cities on it I can scroll through cause I'll be damned but I really can't remember every system.
