fast travel simulator
You don't actually fly anywhere in this game. You just fast travel to a location and the game will sometimes give you a random encounter to load into. Have they never played any other space game? How do they figure having fast travel be the only method of actually travelling from place to place make a fun space game in their eyes?

Because this isn't actually a space game. If you actually explore the landing areas, particularly the ones that aren't procedural, you'll find a lot of fantastic content that is on par with anything BGS has created in the past.

How DARE you point out boring game design?!? That's it, Mister. You just wait until Todd Howard gets home.

To be honest this is less boring and time consuming than actually flying to different star systems or even between planets.

There's certainly an argument to be made for immersion but in terms of "fun" this lets you have a hell of a lot more if it.

Saying i'ts not a space game is kind of odd, and I agree with OP 100%

Why is it odd? 95% of the game takes place on foot on the surface of a planet/moon or in space stations. Were you upset when Mass Effect had fast travel between planets and star systems?

If this game had copied NMS's open travel system it would be a lot more fun IMO. I am not sure how it could be more boring than watching loading screens considering in NMS you can travel from one end of the galaxy to another and land on a planet wherever you like faster than the sequence of 3-4 loading screens you get in this game :(

On ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hardware maybe, but still highly unlikely as it can take upwards of a couple of minutes in NMS to travel across a star system (the "galaxy" takes literally dozens of hours to traverse). The loading screens for me are less than a couple of seconds at worst and you can skip basically all but one anytime you travel somewhere.

Space travel over any distance is mind numbingly boring. If you want to stare at the darkness of space or cut scenes of FTL travel for minutes (hours?) on end, there are other games that will unapologetically scratch that itch (I play one of them). No shame in that. In Starfield you can still fly in areas, you can still have dogfights, board ships and space stations, discover 'things' in space, you just don't get the 'staring at a star field screen saver' experience that others provide. And the planets, when you explore them, can have some really great experiences.

And lets face it, from the studios legacy of games like Skyrim and Fallout, once you've marked the major locations on the map relatively no-one is riding their horse all the way from Windhelm to Solitude for fun, or trudging through the post-apoc landscape from Sanctuary to the Glowing Sea. They're using fast travel. If you're one of the people who just disable fast travel in any game, then again, this isn't for you and there are other games that would scratch that itch.

Posters complaining about space travel should play Elite:Dangerous and take a cargo delivery mission to Hutton Orbital!

Or fly back and forth across Stanton a couple of times in an Aurora in Star Citizen
Because its not a starship sim. Its a rpg.

You actually can fly to other celestial bodies. It just takes many hours.

If this was Star Trek, this will be it as the show just fast travel the plot than watch the ship fly everywhere.

Flying in NMS is boring as space at times have nothing going on, no different than MS flight sim as it have nothing but clouds to see.
