How to make a storage outpost?
I'm really not asking much from the outpost feature, don't care about decoration or building complicated things. But I do want want something where I can dumb all my inventory in and be accessible to any crafting stations I have so that I don't have to inventory shuffle.

Yet that doesn't seem to be possible? Storage crate stuff aren't accessible from crafting station. And storage container for raw resource have pathetic holding quantity, so that you need to make a million and will go insane trying to find anything in there.

Am I missing something that make it all work? If not, I imagine there might be some mod out there for that already (say something that obviously make storage of raw resource infinite, or at the very least connect all the similar one together for shared storage) but then that could easily be broken by a patch...

I have the same problem. I thought I build an outpost to craft things, but as soon as I build storage containers two things happened: First I realized they only have a mass limit of 75 (while the smaller storage crate has 150, which is ridiculous) and second if you build a ton of them and things get stored automatically across them you quickly lose the oversight of where is what and how much you have of it.

I don't know what to do right now and I'm thinking the best option is to just build a huge ship with a lot of cargo space, though I actually would prefer a nimble combat ship for bounty hunting. It's a dilemma. :steamfacepalm:

If I can't I realize the scenario mentioned above, I don't think outposts have a purpose for me at all...

I just made a few dozen warehouses (not storage containers) and solid/liquid/gas storages and that works alright for me. It's all shared to the workbenches for me?

I dump things into the containers by rarity or sort it alphabetically, either way you probably don't need hundreds of each mineral. All the containers stack vertically so that helps a little.

If you can't be bothered sorting it yourself, maybe just don't collect so much of it.
Starfield created a bit of a logistical nightmare for outposts, likely on purpose. You have a lot of room to build so personally I don't mind running a more realistic warehousing system. You can bet modders will increase cargo sizes ASAP either way.

If you have serious excess, you can also put items down inside the outpost. I'm not sure if they ever despawn (can't rule it out but it hasn't happened to me in 10 hours so far), but you can certainly store vast quantities of anything that way. Like storage containers, these won't be automatically picked up the crafting tables though but I think it's good to know.

Hummm, I wonder if you can permanently leave a ship at an outpost without making it your new main ship, maybe just make a ship that has just the minimum to be made (cheapest reactor/engine/grav) and fill the rest with storage and workbench module.

build it in outpost, you need 4 type of container to store those resources (material, gas, liquid, manufactured)

for easy storing/ auto sort place a "transfer container" module, and connect the module output to all different type of other storage container (material, gas, liquid, manufactured), for bigger storage size you can daisy chain the storage container output so like material container -> material container -> material container and so on. the storage in essence add up 10x small material storage hold 750,you can add more if not enough just connect to the chain.

Now for easy storing all your hoard, place the transfer container module near your ship landing pad/outpost beacon, you just need to store all your resources to the Transfer Container module and it will autosort autostore it to the correct container for you.

SO now if you want to research built craft etc in the outpost you will get access to all resource you need.

Problem with that is that now if I need a specific materials (say I want to setup a new outpost and need some starting materials) I have no way of knowing which container its in and I have to manually check all of them.

That's what we did already. We talk about the logistical problems afterwards.

Also, if you overproduce one material you'll need to find it somewhere in your storage containers to get rid of it to make space for anything else. And how do you know if you have overproduced something in the first place? You would have to sort through all your containers on a regular basis to check if something clutters up your storage.

That would not work, because every time you switch your home ship, all the cargo contents comes with it.

I guess a big freighter as a main ship is the only solution right now, as the cargo management there, is manageable.

Thx for the tip, I already knew that. Do you know if crafting in the basement works with the items in the boxes?

no sadly it doesnt but since its close i usualy just take it all out and research/craft ect then put it back in

Yup just use that box for resources then it's one button take them all out, craft what you want and 1 button to put them back. Ez

The ability to leave cargo on a ship and not have it auto transfer to whatever you select as home ship would solve a lot of this. I find it immersion breaking we can't keep multiple ships separate from the others for various tasks.

I would be a ship building junky, but why when it's better to try to make one do it all with this major design flaw.

This is sad. We can build huge outposts and big ships with all sorts of things and yet this is the most easiest way to handle all the resources. It's ridiculous. This feels extremely unbalanced and unfinished.

yeah sadly i wish there was also atleast 1 box for your outpost that has unlimited weight so we arent forced to make constellation one of the major "homes" that you need to rely on for stuff
