Main on desktop. Also play on Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally. Have over 100 hours in Starfield and saves on handheld devices are there for only about first 40 hours ish. Tried the following on both devices:
Validate game files in properties
Repair Steam Library Folder in settings
Uninstall Starfield / Reinstall game from file transfer over network and again from new download
Restart Steam
Restart Device
Sign out of Steam / Sign back in to Steam on all devices
Clear Steam Cache on devices
Play Starfield via streaming from desktop, save game, quite to title screen, quite game, then start game from local install on device
Open game properties and toggle cloud sync off/on for all devices
None of the above have worked for me and honestly should have. There is something really wrong with Steam and Starfield game saves. I expect it will only be fixed in a patch.
All other games installed on Steam Deck and on the Ally sync just fine.
Only Starfield is having this issue.
If your saves are NOT syncing to the cloud it is due to the cloud being low on space, simply go to your game with the most recent save and delete ALL of the older saves but keep a couple of the most recent ones. Exit the game and open up steam and the cloud SHOULD upload the saves to the cloud and will be available on other hardware. For ex: I was having this problem with my PC and my steam deck. My PC saves were NOT uploading to the cloud so they wouldn’t show up on my steam deck. So I got on my PC, loaded the most recent save and deleted the rest of the saves. I had over 100 saves since I started the game. Once I deleted them all but a Hard save, a quick save, and an exit save I opened steam and it uploaded the saves to the cloud. I then closed steam on my PC and opened it on my steam deck and it downloaded my cloud saves which fixed it.

In addition, the best option is to use manual saves, and save often - as auto saves are limited in number and individuals may find that if they are relying solely on auto saves, in case of an error where they may need to roll back, the auto saves often do not go back far enough.
>>>Just delete some saves in-game and it should re-sync correctly across your devices.<<<
Been pulling hairs out for days trying to figure this out, and it was seriously that simple.
Hope it helps another spacefarer out.
This did fix it for me, but one extra step, I had to open the game and and make a new save, and then it finally uploaded the saves.
Bro I literally said that like 2 days before you posted this…lol
Just came here to say this fixed it for me as well going back and forth between my desktop and laptop.. Hoping others with the same issue see your post. Nicely done.
