What can I do to increase performance?
I have a Ryzen 5 5600g, RTX 3060, and 16 gb of RAM so I am above the recommended spec, however the game runs like a slideshow :/ is there anything I can do to improve it WITHOUT resorting to mods? or am I just out of luck?

the problem in this game is the engine, this engine is a true relict.

Oh the exact same performance I have on 1080p on 2080Ti then...

I was playing on HDD with Ultra settings and wasn't getting a slideshow at all (stable 20-40fps depending on area) and I'm using an i9 and GTX 1660 Super lol. No clue how your rig can't handle the game, even on SSD. I'm installing it on my SSD currently as it's not just recommended but required, as yes, the stuttering in parts rendered the game borderline unplayable. It's just interesting to see what each player counts as playable quality. Some people really want to crank the juice out of their hardware and get as many frames as possible while others are content, or at least, more used to the smaller numbers.

Sorry this is a "well *I* didn't have issues" type comment, but I've seen so many people complain about the game's performance on high end hardware, and it's strange to me bc it played just fine. Maybe bc I'm a 60Hz 60fps gamer and not a tech-guzzler like most PC players. You're used to what you're used to. I do hope they continue optimising the game after the enormous outcry though, but at least we have modders until then.

I would be happy with stable 40-50s. But I am getting 30 strictly almost all the time in all outdoor places...

This may be a head scratcher for some people that watched those big youtube channels showing the 5800X3D and other X3D chips getting lower scores than they should have.

What I think is going on, something to do with the game is causing the X3D cpus to run on the hotter side. At least I can confirm this with my 5800X3D because I have one. On the big youtuber channels I guarantee they just popped in the 5800x3d cpu and left the cpu bios settings at all defaults. As many of you should know if you just pop in the 5800x3d cpu and call it a day, it will run hot as fire at default settings causing the cpu to easily reach 80C-85C+ and start to throttle. What this does is gimp the 5800x3d and the boost clocks go from 4450mhz down to 4000mhz or lower. Almost 500mhz is a lot of performance loss, left on the table if you are hitting 80-90C on a 5800x3d.

I have always had mine undervolted from the get go and are seeing well above what the youtubers are showing a 5800x3d can do. Although I do have an AMD GPU too so that is the difference in the test and I am at 1440P. 1080p can cause even more of an issue as its putting more load on the CPU in this games current state.

I am not having any issues with my 5800x3d and 6900xt overclocked to 6950xt performance, but like I said it is at 1440P ultra 100% maxed out and the cpu is undervolted and stays in full boost 4450mhz 99% of the time..

This PC is currently way outperforming an rtx 4080 setup, even with the best cpu when you compare apples to apples same settings at native 1440p.

Yeah im noticing this too. How are you undervolting it? PBO tuner or just a flat undervolt?

You can try just using the Hardware Unboxed graphical settings and see how that helps you but if not heres what i use. its very easy to set up.

Also you can further tweak the .ini settings to possibly get a few more fps without using mods, there are guides on steam and elsewhere for this.

So i use the DLSS mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/196) and Hardware Unboxed settings and i am able to get a pretty stable framerate while maintaining good visuals. I capped the fps within Nvidia control panel to 75 for SF since i cant hit 144 in this game and in cities i drop to around 53 fps lowest and stay locked to 75 in space or in the wilds. I wish the game had better optimization out of the box and didnt rely so heavily on upscaling to achieve decent performance but im glad i was able to achieve a playable experience in the end.

my system specs
9700k @5mhz
16g 3200 ram
msi 3060 12g
installed on a WD Black sn850x
