Rifles or Pistols?

Sorry this isn't yet another rant about gender or whatever, but it turns out this is actually a forum for this game called Starfield which you may have heard of.

Since we can't upgrade melee weapons I'm a tad bummed I spent perks on upgrading that line. I've been liking the low weight and high damage output of pistols (my maglock revolver thing I've got at lvl 25 is doing 250ish damage fully auto for example) but I'm wondering if rifles have something that compensates for how hefty they are besides looks?

What have people been using and why?

That sucks yo. The one I found was 110 damage and it looked cool, so I used it for a bit. More of a stealthy silenced revolver guy now.

Hilariously the japanese swords suck at cutting the cut doors. literally cannot hit the restraints LMAO

Rangers questline has a high damage pistol early on, and then later a nice rifle too. I use both, lean more towards pistol, but rifle is nice for ranged fights. I'm using ballistics, don't care for the laser weapons generally.

I think you get "advanced" versions of those weapons but I'm not fully sure. Miss upgrading them like back in Fallout 4 though

Does the pistol get bonus from Sniper perk if you put a small scope on it?
