Yah, that does really blow (imo). I'd like to do NG+ and I'd like to do multiple playthroughs with different traits. Would have been freaking convenient to be able to combine those two things.
I didn't know about NG+ when I first started playing, and I made my first character with NO traits, figuring I could mess with them on future playthroughs. Then I found out about NG+. I restarted entirely after 60 hours of playing so that I could pick some traits.
Yeah NG+ is usually play the same game but easier cuz its your same build/character but from the beginning
The ENHANCE shops let you change gender, appearance and name. The only set in stone element of the character is perks which honestly seems fair as the intent is that you get them all eventually.

If you are not interested in that (like me), you can just stick to the base game and stay in it forever! There is no level cap, so all skills can be eventually unlocked if you so desire. So you can build the best Outposts, the best ships, etc, etc.
Maybe after a good long while you get maybe a bit tired in your current game and would like to relive the story or just start over, but don't want to level from scratch.... then NG+ can be an option by then.
Just look at Cohh. He got literally screwed over by the streaming community to rush through the main campaign and start NG+ as soon as possible, as that is where the game was really supposed to begin.
He already put up two warning videos and deeply regretting it. Admitting he basically ruined the experience for himself.
I mean, if you prefer normal, that's fine too. But you did say "boring" so I thought maybe you didn't like normal.
Loot is better the higher your difficulty (better chance of the higher rarities), so there's some incentive to it.
