Steam or PC Game Pass Version?
I’m wanting to pick up Starfield on PC and am trying to decide on buying the Steam version or getting the Game Pass version? How is each version? Is the Game pass version as optimized as the Steam version? Any recommendations?

uh they're literally the same game, optimization has no bearing on the storefront, the only real difference is gamepass is harder to use mods on

Steam version is easier to mod, in my experience. If you already have Game Pass it's a good way to test it there before you commit. If you don't plan to ever mod it then it makes no difference really.

they are both the same game, just depend if you want to pay full price now and have the game open to you or risk game pass and suddenly having it removed and you have to pay for it anyway and ofc the steam version can be modded if you want to do that

Btw, just to add to this.. I hear the GamePass version will have limited support for modding. I see some mods in Nexus having a GP version already, so there is that.

I think gamepass is the perfect way for people who want to test if they can actually play it.

They'll bring back the 1 dollar pass again sooner or later.

it's gonna have official creation club support, but everything else is up in the air

They are the same game.

The difference is that game pass is a rental service, you pay 10 euro to access a library of games, that may or may not change each month.
Once you stop paying subscription you lose access to the library

On steam you buy a licence for the game, thus owning it as long as its on the platform and maybe (if Valve holds their word, even after if they closed their doors)

The game is currently extremly poorly opmized for many and it has various technical issues. Mods will take months to come out (before there is any actual quality ones) and they will take a toil on performance and stability as well.

What system do you have? If we know that it is better to advice you.
IF you already know you want the game no matter what and like it, it is all about if you wanna pay to own the licence or just rent it.

Steam allows a 2 hours gurantied period for testing, where you can refund no questions asked, if you are under the 2 hours and 14 days have not passed.

2 hours is enough to test if you can run the game.

Not someone who has to tweak it to run smooth.

I had to refund it due to crashing almost every minute. Runs perfectly for me before the crash. But I don't blame Starfield for that due to my potato pc(rx480 and i5-6402P haha).

I have it on gamepass since early release.
I was worried but it works just as well as on steam.

Current mods also works on gamepass so far atleast.

I tested 3 different rigs with not just tweaking around, but also meassuring technical performance and various scenarios in 2 hours.
I think people can test if their system can run the game or not in less than an hour, even with a lot of tweaking.

(One tip, in case;
a few of us in gamepass had a bug where it couldnt save at one point.
I dont know if its fixed, but workaround was disabling one drive (if you even have it) and disable windows firewall. not really preferable but it was the workaround for us)

Want a cookie?

What a nice offer.
Is it a gluten free one? does it contain any artifical things?

If its somewhat natural, I would love one.
