This has all the habs I want, easy interior to navigate. Rarely lose shields in battle. Great visibility from the bridge. Cora says she likes it. But I'm still "meh" over the looks :steamsad:

Awesome design then. But how you get such a high value for that ship?
3 engines at 42k a piece. Reactor was over 80k. 118k grav drive. Its quite the expensive thing to build. Which is why it only has one gun so far. XD

Note:obviously you can use less expensive stuff. But I just kind of wanted to see if I could fit the good stuff on there, and not have it look like crap. :)

That is interesting. I am still working on the redesign of the Razorleaf and have changed it a lot and am nowhere close to that credit figure. Less than 100k value. lol. Even tho so far, I have spent over 250k on the redesign of my ship. But it may be as you say, because I have not used the most expensive modules I can.

You did a good job in working with it and she has a lot of cargo space, which may be what is contributing to her "blocky" look.

Each to his own of course. But I am not a fan of any ship which looks like a huge lego block. Not saying yours is that bad however. So don't take this as criticism.

That's what bothers me about it. I have very little structural cosmetic parts. Altogether, less than 50 mass. Like I said earlier... was going for the Fed Corvette style in Elite Dangerous, but yeah I'm staring at this Lego Project instead :steamfacepalm:

Maybe the OP likened it to a Lego because of the modular block building nature of the interface? I've had friends describe it like this for that reason.

Where is that cockpit module from, Hopetech?

Jaggid got you covered there. Yep, it's Deimos.

If you're interested in that shape, there's one from Nova that you might also like.

I wasted an hour or so trying to build something decent with JUST Hopetech parts.
I simply could not do it because every time I turned around pieces did not match or it felt like pieces were missing.
- Fuselage, it has no "end pieces" or 4 ways and it does not even line up with the cockpit.
- Passage only go port to starboard, none of the front to back except the 4 way.
- The landing gear blows because the only heavy duty one is the leg ones. Yet this is supposed to be "trucks in space."
- The overseer cockpit reminds me like a giant with a tiny head when comparing it to the Stroud Kontiki bridge.
- no solid block structurals like Stroud or Deimos

Do not get me wrong Hopetech has some great pieces in the set, but the rest are just bleh.

It is like the developers just ignored the fact ship builders should NOT be using parts made by another ship company. Common independent companies, sure. Maybe I just have to rethink it some more, lol.
I like the Hopetech bridge though.

Also the seats that are just placed around the bridge, with no console or controls nearby, annoys me on the Stroud-Ecklund bridges (and Taiyo cockpits). I realize this is probably supposed to be Star Trek bridge-like, but I think it looks silly to have seats just around for people to sit in, with nothing to sit at.

Also, don't the actual ships constructed by each company only use their own parts? I never actually checked, as I don't buy ships unless I'm going to tear them apart and customize them, but I thought that was the case. Our personal ships are our own custom beasts, and I've never been concerned about having a single manufacturer for them.

As far as the fuselage, the Hopetech ships notably often use the radiator in the fuselage line, but yeah, I find the fuselage and cockpit a little awkward, so I always have to jam something like the Deimos cowling behind the top of it, to make it look not oddly disconnected. Still, I like their look combined with the Deimos parts like that.

Hopetech probably has my favorite cockpits, stylistically speaking. Though, I like the Deimos bridge, and I like the Nova Galactic stuff well enough (could do without the clipping into things when standing up from the pilot seat in the cockpits though).

That said, I don't think Taiyo or Nova Galactic have solid bracers, like Stroud-Ecklund and Deimos either, do that's not that much of a knock on Hopetech? Hopetech just doesn't have a particularly good selection of structural parts in general though, honestly, but I suppose their thing is "function over form" (supposedly), so not having a bunch of non-functional options is kind of in character.

Yeah its kinda odd that HopeTech doesn't actually make enough parts to build an operational ship. No standard hull blocks, really limited structurals, very little on the side walls. Nova Galactic is all structural and habs, really nice ones in my opinion, the Nova Galactic captain's quarters is great compared to the turd of the Stroud-Eklund CQ. Nova Galactic at least has the excuse of being shuttered and bankrupt so its not surprising to be incomplete, but HopeTech? No excuse. Their ships like Silent Runner (the apex of their line) almost has more Deimos than Hopetech.
I like the Overseer bridges, it really does fit the ugly space barge aesthetic. The seats on the Kon-Tiki bridge are set up like a small basement sermon tbh, there's no panels, monitors, tables, anything, but the thing that bothers me is the big horizontal metal bar in your face. Overseer, iirc, is a clearer "windshield" picture.

Stroud is generally my favorite aside from Captain's Quarters, Nova Galactic habs and structure I use in almost every ship, Deimos is really solid overall but I generally use the structurals and landing gear. iirc Nova Galactic has a landing gear with 4 thrust; you'd think HopeTech would be invested in fat landing gear considering the space van/truck/barge focus but no.

I don't know if this is the case of the issue, but I recommend you take a look at the corporate HQ of each manufacturer for full access to structural cosmetics of a specific brand; this is, Titan for Nova (Sol), Deimos for Deimos (Sol), HopeTown for HopeTech (Polvo, same spot as Narion I think?) Stroud-Eklund (I don't remember this one, was it at Cheyenne?) and Taiyo at the Ryujin Tower in Neon.

Yep, what @Rragar said. There's a metric ton of Structural parts that are simply not available unless you go to the specific manufacturer locations.

Of all the parts that are not available at the Outpost ship builder, those bug me the most. It would be freaking nice if there was one place to be able to see and use ALL structural parts. Because, for me at least, those are the ones that I just can't mentally keep track of all of the options available.

I have found it hard to have a lot of cargo space and yet, a smooth, cool look to a ship. I resigned the Razorleaf so the Habs was all one level ( no ladders, outside of the Landing bay one ) and yet had powerful guns and a large cargo capacity.

What it ended up looking like was a big flat 8 x 12 cake pan. :P

I guess what I may have to do, is design a powerful ship, with a smaller cargo space and spartan type living mods for the ship crew. Only use it for space battle quests.

Ok, tried the Deimos cockpit:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3057830476
and it ruined my EZPZ walking route from the bridge->Workshop->Exit
And most of the crew sit in a "ready room" type area? Weird.

HopeTech-55 Lander; 4 thrust.

I think their idea is to use side-mounted landers primarily to leave the bottom free for the big hab-sized cargo blocks.

Yeah. The ship building landing pad for the Outposts, should as a Outpost skill selection min, allow access to all ship modules ( ones you have earned to use from quests and base ones ) there. But, may never see that.

It makes sense I would have to give up style points in order to have it all. And I wouldn't mind a blocky area in the rear if I could smooth it down to a nice point in the front (just like the Federal Corvette) but even that is elusive for my skill level.

Lol. The name of the ship gave me a good hearty chuckle. You have a good imagination. :)
