Starborn powers are a bit underwhelming
Especially the offensive ones. They barely do anything. Life forced doesn’t seem to work at all.

It’s because they can be upgraded if you find the same artifacts in one of your NG+ runs, and then they become more impactful. Powers are really for people who want to do NG+, the initial versions are all pretty weak, as you see.

Yeah but those upgrades barely do anything themselves. It’s a pretty small improvement and you can only do that 10 times. Even at that point they probably won’t scale very well.

The only one I ever really use in a fight is Phased Time. While running around I use Personal Atmosphere. Other then that, I have no need for any others.. so yeah, I agree on some level.

Yeah, haven't been impressed with most of the powers even when they are upgraded.

I'm not sure how good they are when fully upgraded to 10, but the only powers I ever use are Personal Atmosphere, Void Form, Reactive Shield and Star Sense.

Maybe sometimes I could see a use for Phased Time and Gravity Well can be interesting in large groups of enemies that are somewhat close together, but other than that, the majority of the other powers are just plain useless.

Non of the offensive powers I have ever used actually seem to do any real damage, even compared to the mining laser or bare handed fists.

When I read the description of the beam ability that says it does significant damage to a single target I was like, OOOOOOhhhhhh, I can maybe do a powers only run! Since you have single target with the beam and AoE damage with the nova burst.

Nope. Neither one does anything great.

I even tried doing an unarmed build and getting all the skills to do as much unarmed damage as possible and other than one shotting really weak enemies it kind of sucked because even at maxed out melee perks all it was really good for was knocking down single targets and keeping them on the ground until you beat them to death.

But in open areas with a lot of targets?

Weapons all the way, nothing is better.
