One of the best ships in game you've never heard of...

For some reason, perhaps b/c the quest line takes a while - you almost never hear about the Freespace Ranger ship. (Some sites don't even mention you get one, only an outfit, when doing walkthroughs...)

The ship is awesome - Just an FYI. (For instance, you need Starship Design 4 just to upgrade it - which means it comes stacked!).

Just an FYI. I enjoyed the quest line (it's a faction quest line, not the main one) and has an awesome reward at the end - but currently, only 4.2% of players have the achievement for finishing it. You're missing out!

I think each of the factions have a "free" ship after a very long quest. I'm 3/4 of the way through the free rangers quest, but I went off to work on my Piloting rank 4 so I could get C-class ships. Within a few hours I was rank 3 and stole a B-class ship which is just about as good, for far less time.

Not all of em reward a ship but usually the end quest rewards are really nice. UC faction line gives a dope penthouse in town free of charge.

To the earlier comment -

Yeah, there are several free ones, I don't want to spoil it, but I think the Mantis quest line is pretty well known.

One thing about the Ranger ship - you don't need any pilot upgrades to fly it, which I thought was interesting. And, if you're having trouble doing space missions, it definitely gives you an advantage, which can help you work up that pilot skill.

I was mostly pointing this one out in particular b/c I hadn't seen a lot of chatter about it, but was honestly surprised by how awesome the ship was. Had I known it was coming, I'd have focused on the quest line a lot earlier.
