Objective reasons for building outposts?
I get that building outposts can be fun, but are other reasons to build them? I'm 20+ hours in and I haven't seen the need for them.

Necessary (or is it convenient) for crafting or research? I've not done either as again, not sure it is necessary or is beneficial outside of role playing or slight convenience. I feel I'm missing something here.

My focus so far has been on building my fleet and combat. I already have good ships with great storage and firepower. How can outposts help me?

I got a contract to deliver 500 copper that made me think, mining outpost might be nice. So there's that. But I only got 9h of playtime with 78 crashes within 7 of those hours. Game is unplayable really for me, so no idea what else could come up to trigger the need or want for outposts. :(

I need more aluminum and tungsten, and a place to store all the crap i'm amassing.

I think outposts there are purely for it to be your own base. Garage if you want. For people, who want to play pirates for example. They can't just go and land at other settlements. So they need their own base

You can gather and store more resources than you'll ever need with outposts.

you can have up to 24 of them I think? and there are enough people you can recruit to staff them all

Not really. They help you harvest resources but it takes a lot of time & perk points to get your outposts to ramp up.

Indeed. That's why as I see it, outposts are really more useful on second playthrough and later. But it's just my opinion

Back at the Lodge, there are 2 storage containers with INFINITE capacity. One in your bedroom, the other in the work room (has all the work tables) to the right of the entrance.

Storage isn't an issue for me with those 2 infinity chests.

Ah, makes sense for pirating.

i thought this way a few days ago, too. i thought i could just fast travel back to the lodge any time i want and use storage with infinity space.

but you get to a point you're so far out, regularly, that doing multiple warps back to the lodge every time you want to mess with inventory is annoying.

so that is when i started using outposts...

Good point. I've been doing faction quests and have only progressed about 20% of the main quest line so I've not been pulled to the far reaches of the universe yet. I can see the value of using outposts in the farther reaches of the uni.

But isn't it just a loading screen away either way?? Ur not LITERALLY out further anywhere, it's an illusion... ur warping to ur outpost or warping to ur lodge, right?

Maybe I'm confused, maybe it's not as simple once I get further out and outposts change that??

Your travel distance is limited by fuel. It means making several stops along the route, especially if unexplored.

That's going out into the universe of course. I don't know about coming back. I would assume fast travel wouldn't be available from far out in theuni, to back to the beginning areas due to the fuel issue. The reason for that assumption is because outposts can serve as refueling stations. So as long as you are passing a fueling outpost in the route, there see no stops, thus allowing fast travel at longer distances.
