What can I do to get better performance?
My rig is a 5950x 3090, 128gigs ddr4(need it for work so don't bother lecturing at the ram) and my res is 5120 x 1440. I am getting like 40-60 fps on high settings. FSR seems to be doing almost nothing. I try dropping a bunch of settings but the improvements are minimal. Sometimes It doesn't do much at all.

I can't believe this was put out like this. It doesn't even have HDR. It's a MS game and they don't even support Auto HDR. No excuses.

Is there way to get DLSS for this game? I think there is a mod but that's only DLSS 3.0 and costs money.

People with a similar rig please let me know what your specs are. This frame rate just doesn't work with a KB and M. It's giving me a headache.

I am sorting out the DLSS 2 mod as we speak.

https://www.dexerto.com/tech/how-to-add-dlss-to-starfield-on-pc-step-by-step-mod-guide-2274531/

The only thing I haven't achieved yet is to change the Render resolution. At the moment I am stuck at 50% which seems rather low.

It says you can but then doesn't say how.

The one thing you did not cover is what the game is installed on.

If you want the game to really perform, it has to be installed on a motherboard mounted SSD in order to negate the bandwidth hit from going through a cable interface. That is what Bethesda REALLY meant when saying 'SSD' as the target for installation.

With widescreen 1440 on high settings thats normal FPS for now. After looking at some CPU/memory benchmarks DDR5 memory does seem to help a bit, but thats not an option for you.

Other than getting a DLSS mod nothing you can do but wait for a performance patch or new drivers from Nvidia.

im expecting patches to start rolling out soon, although i dont expect any of them to magically make the game run buttery smooth. itll probably fall on the modders. only problem is after updates do start rolling out mods will constantly be broken by new game versions. might be a while before the equilibrium is met.

Unbelievable that you need to do this for them, FOR FREE. Why is FSR such hot trash compared to DLSS?

Yea it's on a NVME on the mobo. It's one of the faster ones too...

Turn off xbox game bar and other overlays, turn off ingame vsync if you have a monitor above 60Hz, experiment with shadow quality and adjust render scale. Use the DLSS bridge on Nexus for better upscaled image quality. M2 SSD helps too.

i9-13900k
64GB DDR5 RAM
RTX 2080 Super
2560x1440 - 165Hz

Stable 60+ fps in smaller interiors, 50-60 in large interiors depending on where I look and 30-40 in New Atlantis. Frames outside depends on world but are between 40-60+.

Settings maxed out, except shadows. 75% render scale with DLSS bridge.

Software driven (FSR) vs. Hardware driven (DLSS).

FSR isn't so bad but it does have some artefacts in the game. These were pointed out by another players. Some flickering in mid-field lines. DLSS cures that, but as I said, at the moment I am stuck at 50% so the quality is a bit lacking.

shadows on medium, 75% resolution scaling, everything else doesn't really matter
if you're tweaking ini to get ultra widescreen, then 50% resolution scale
with dlss mod it should be ok

I don't understand what the 50 percent res scale does. Meaning you run the game half res? Where are you getting the DLSS mod? Is it the one that costs money? Isn't it DLSS 3.0? Which isn't compatible with a 3090?

Yeah that is what the res scaling does. 50% would be running at 2560x720 on a 5120x1440 UW display and then upscaling that to native.

nexusmods has a bunch to choose from, your gpu doesn't support dlss3 frame generation, so it's irrelevant
res scaling is literally a slider in your display options
Go to Nexusmods and get the new free DLSS3 mod by Luke. It's still in alpha but it supports frame generation. Also try the mod "Custom Presets for FPS Boost"..the Ultra setting gives a nice fps increase while still looking close to vanilla Ultra.

If I am using the gamepass version will it work?
