FIXED Freezing (REALLY)
I've been trying every suggestion on the internet with no luck until today. It seems limiting CPU usage solves the problem until a patch arrives,

To do this follow these steps:

1. Download 'Battle Encoder Shirase',
2. Run this as ADMIN (essential) from anywhere on your PC, it doesn't need installing.
3. Run Starfield until the main menu appears, then minimise it.
4. Using Battle Encoder select 'Target'.
5. Select the Starfield.exe process from the list, select 'Limit This' and move the slider at the
bottom to -8%
6. Done.

NOTE: If your starfield crashes, thats a different issue. This fixes freezing for about 5 seconds every minute or so especially during combat.

This doesn't fix the crashing issue, I never had starfield crash. This fixes the intermittent freezing issue where the game freezes for 5 seconds then continuies every minute or so.

I have the "5-10 seconds freeze every 2-3 minutes or so", with a peak (100%) in CPU usage right at the time of the freeze. Then it goes smoothly like before.

And your workaround definitely did it for me.
Thanks a lot !

I am currently using a very conservative -10% limiting, and will try lowering it as it goes.

How much memory is on your GPU? If it's lower than 8GB you can get around this by downloading the 1k or lower textures from nexus mods.

For the record I have a i5 6600K, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1080GTX (8GB GDDR5), 1TB SSD and another faster RAID setup 2x512GB SSDs. It's installed on the 1TB SSD and keeps up a solid vsync'ed 30fps with mostly high settings on my TV which i'm more than happy with.

There are definately several types of performance related bugs in starfield at the moment, that will more likely be fixed in Bethesda's next patch rather than Nvidia's next driver update.

Did you try limiting your CPU like I said above? No matter how powerful your CPU, if it gets to 100% usage it will start struggling to keep up instructions to your GPU and cause a freeze.

I don't need this but it's always cool to see people sharing their tips and support. Cheers OP.

This mod really fixes stuttering and freezing.
Give it a try.

It's not though, its another way of getting it to be playable on HDD by using the page file instead and makes no difference on an SSD.

I have 3x ssd 990 Pro. Sometimes i wondering how often and long the ssd active led ligt is blinking at my pc.
My desktop resolution is 1920x1080
The game offer for changing the resolution is grey colourd.
If i choose the option windowed i can change the resolution to 4k. Than i got freezes for moments. Back to 1080p ingame and no short freezes there.
I am thinkink for changing the desktop resolution to 4k and having a look for my grey colourd ingame resolution setup. Or i go on with 1080p. (cpu 7950x3d gpu 4090) it does not matter me a lot.

I speak from personal experience.
I have SSD R/W 3000+ speed.

There were stutters and freezes during dialogue at the beginning.

Now there is no. The author of the mod describes that the problems initially stem from the buffering functions in the game being disabled for some reason.

I am using a gamepad at the pc and sometimes in the menue where you can go to your inventar or your skills and the map the game do not give me my pc mouse back..i will get there but the change between both is not well made. The Game is showing your buttons at the gamepad which are your options to do something or the game offer your keyboard binding or do i remember wrong now...a change from gamepad to mouse is not possible for me than..usualy i click the left mouse button to get the mouse back but sometimes i can not.
