Starfield destroyed my monitor

I had to afk so I paused the game, after an hour I came back and the STARFIELD logo stayed burnt into my monitor lol...

I had no idea this thing can happen on an IPS after 1 hour....

maybe press the power button on your screen and use your brain next time?
Same stuff happened with smart people and plasma tvs back then, pausing movies and leting it burn it....

Same thing with CRT's . . . I know with plasma TV's/screens there were some video files you could run that would usually clear up or significantly help the burn in issue.

yes I remember, crt era had nice "SCREENSAVERS" <- thus the name to fight the issue with burn ins happening.

Im surprised your screensaver didnt kick in...at the very least the game properly pauses. So when you walk away your computer isnt still generating a ton of heat. I think my screensaver kicks in, but maybe not. Sometimes windows is doing crap and disables it, makes no sense.

I walk away from gaming all the time sadly, I got things to do and when I know im going to do stuff for more than 15 minutes I properly shut everything down. But life, is well, unexpected. At the very least I try to turn the monitor off its its more than a few minutes.

I thought the new oled monitors didnt have this problem though? I remember the first plasma tv's were real bad about it. Ill bet any of those used for playing wow proably have things burned in permanently.

Default, OOB 22H2 has the screensaver off, but timeout on instead. When a videogame is running though, the screen timeout won't trigger.

No it didn't. Your monitor is prone to burn-in and any high-contrast graphic of that nature would cause burn-in.

This is not nothing new. It has been with us for all computer gaming. Back in the 1980s we had to be very careful, especially with our monochrome monitors, because they were subject burn-in due to the primitive CRT technology we were using.

OTOH, I've done the same as you and have had no burn-in. But I bought the highest quality Gigabyte monitor I could afford. Yes, I paid more, but my blacks are true-black and I don't suffer from burn-in.

Oh, btw, I just got pause for 15 minute, grab my lunch, came back and the logo was there, at my screen. I fixed with some random 8k video pixel refresher from youtube. Just let it run for few minutes and the logo will vanish. It NEVER happened with any game. Never. "oh, your brightness". I play since 2018, same monitor, same settings, full time on, this is the first time something in a game leaves a watermark. Yes, the problem is the game, not me. Every game, every menu put some random animation, because they care for our hardware. They care for our screens, and more, they care for possible lawsuits.

Except it has nothing to do with starfield whatsoever and EVERYTHING to do with the monitor he owns and knowing how to take care of it to prevent burn in, which apparently his monitor is prone to...

People saying this has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with starfield are too damn stupid to make an argument here... This is 100% a hardware thing...

Do not leave a screen on without activity, people should stop with these bad habits, if you have to be away 10 min, press the button on your screen or laptop to turn off the screen, or install and activate a screensaver, it’s not the game’s fault but the user’s.

Sounds like a ♥♥♥♥ monitor... never had this issue in my life. Currently have an ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QL1A.

I hear OLED gets these issues though which is why I always avoid them.
