Converting Game Pass Save to Steam
If anyone playing on Game Pass wants to convert their saves to Steam, there's a utility available at the link below to convert them. It's just a python script that extracts the save file data from the proprietary Game Pass containers. There's an executable as well for ease of use. This isn't my script so any thanks should be given to the contributors listed in the github

https://github.com/Z1ni/XGP-save-extractor

It should just create a zip file with all of the saves and you can copy/paste those into %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Saves

It should work without issue but if it doesn't, it's probably because there are empty folders in the Game Pass save folder. If you run the actual python script instead of the exe it will tell you what folder it's failing on if it does fail. I had a couple of empty folders but deleting those worked and I can play my Game Pass saves on Steam

Also an article from a fairly well known PC gaming/hardware review site confirming that it works:

so many people whining about dumb things that this is already six pages deep :( just hoping this can help people out that actually want to play the game instead of troll the forums

And btw, if someone is wondering if you can copy the Game Pass files to Steam to avoid downloading the game again, yes you can, and here's how:

1 - Go to: C:\XboxGames\Starfield and copy/move all the files that are inside the "Content" folder.
2 - Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common and create a folder named "Starfield" in which you'll paste the files.
3- Clic "Install" on Steam and check if it right away says "VALIDATING" in the download menu. If it says "DOWNLOADING 0.00/92GB", it means that you pasted wrong the files and you have to cancel and uninstall the game and then check that there's no C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield\Content

Im my case by doing this the download was reduced from 92GB to 2GB. :chocolaova:

4- Have fun!

I honestly can't say as I used console commands right from the start to try and break the game lol I didn't get far enough into the game to get achievements on Xbox before turning clipping off and flying around the first landing area at 500% movement speed

I had 3 achievements unlocked before playing on Steam, and none of them popped up after loading the save game.

There is one file that says you'll need to provide administrator access to copy this file, and that is screwing me right now

i'm probably late, but that file is probably the starfield.exe, you dont need to copy it, i copied the data folder only and i let the steam validator handle the rest.

To anyone curious about achievement transfers; my experience has been hit and miss. Various achievements popped when I loaded into the game after transferring the saves to Steam, but not all of them. Possibly have to wait til NG+ for the rest to pop properly as most of them are "Join X" or "Go to Space for the first time".
