It's driving me insane. I can't be alone on this? The game forces him as a follower at multiple points in the main quest and refuses to let you tell him off. At one point he is literally asking you for money and you can't say no.

He got people killed by luring pirates to the mining site. Not once but twice. And he doesn't own Argos. He hired them for a dig.

And I said that annoyed me, which is very realistic. I never said I hated him.

NPCs can be pretty annoying.

I just did a side quest where UC and Freestar military work together against the pirates and was mildly nauseated by the obsequious way they praised each other to show we can all hold hands and be friends.

My problem with Barrett is his complete flip in personality after doing his companion quest. He started out as a smooth talking explorer, then after he becomes an "ally" they switch him over to being that guy in the office everyone hates being around because they try too hard to be quirky and funny.

Sam Coe doesnt change all that much, maybe a little more "hey you are alright partner" and they made Andreja warm up a little and make her seem genuinely happy to have someone as a friend, but Barrett cranks that awkwardness up to 11.

"Hey look who is here, time to get the party STARTED"

No Barrett, we are out to hunt down spacers that murdered an entire colony of farmers.

Yeah i found his personality pretty annoying too tbh. Hes also one of the best ship crew in the game so he came along everywhere. Was never my companion though.

Same With sam coe. I found his self righteous cowboy act annoying.

However, im Going to work through both of their stories n hope they have hidden depths...

He has one story related quest that you don't even need to do. The man literally sits on my ship and doesn't say a word to me.

Sarah is one had final said you join constellation and Constellation do paid at end of quest more or less, and had own mission board for you to do, offer higher paycheck more than other mission board by explorer.

Barrett did said he gambit you to join, he is not boss, but he was captain but it's might seem Sarah might approved, player, you, to be captain of ship, still belong to Constellation, thought. she said player get ship (loan tech terms), rent free, I forgot what she said, other than add spacesult, so Constellation did gave lot of credit and stuff, along starship much more than any faction gave player plus superpower.

If you had Kid Stuff, you player would said you got new job at Constellation to your parents so that is basic primary job/career, all other factions is secondary, and last freelancer as hobbies, I guess.

After he made a pass at me I just partnerd with Andreja. She is actually quite good with a gun and so is Vasco. Barret is still in confidence tho.

A fix for that is just to take any other companion and it will fix it, then you can tell the new companion to get lost aswell.

A follower for a main story quest is fine. They have done it outside of the main story for me..
After the Hunter attacks the lodge and you flee to the eye, I had Barrett as a follower. I wasn't in a quest, he was just following me with no explanation.
He wanted to talk about his dead husband, the game made me be nice to him because you can't be mean to him for some reason, then I told him to get lost.

Several missions later he wants to have powers too. You can NOT refuse him.. So I do that, and he's still following me after the mission.

oh boy.. He wants to talk again.. "Give me 2500" can't refuse it.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate Barrett and the idiot who programmed him.

Just switch companions then O_o. I usually use him as much as I can till I get his companion mission for the power after that, I never use him again, I generally use the adoring fan at this point as he doesn't give a damn what you do. I fully expect someone to make a "Adoring Fangirl" companion mod too. Prob voiced too by someone the modder knows.

Sam also has some of the most childish comments he makes in combat. Its not so much what he says it how he says it, he just sounds like a little brat being bratty.
