A fix for that is just to take any other companion and it will fix it, then you can tell the new companion to get lost aswell.
A follower for a main story quest is fine. They have done it outside of the main story for me..
After the Hunter attacks the lodge and you flee to the eye, I had Barrett as a follower. I wasn't in a quest, he was just following me with no explanation.
He wanted to talk about his dead husband, the game made me be nice to him because you can't be mean to him for some reason, then I told him to get lost.
Several missions later he wants to have powers too. You can NOT refuse him.. So I do that, and he's still following me after the mission.
oh boy.. He wants to talk again.. "Give me 2500" can't refuse it.
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate Barrett and the idiot who programmed him.
Literally
He's gay and easy. He's the first and only character to let me use flirt options on. The programmers refuse to let you be mean to him or tell him off. You have to give him asspats over his dead boyfriend or he wont stop following you.
I did manage to get rid of him by asking another follower to follow me and then tell them I'm done.
Interesting.. Other characters don't have this annoying need to talk and have their booboos kissed before you can tell them to stop following you.
Sometimes a companion joins you until you finish a particular mission, you are warned. So you might want to prioritise that mission. Trying to dismiss him should tell you what mission you need to finish.
I just rescued him, think I'll stash him far, far away before I go any further on the main quest.
You missed important dialogue and popups, then. Every single time he (or anyu other npc) join me for a quest, i have the npc telling me "he'll stay for a while" plus an actual popup on top of screen.
If you don't like him, just don't accept the quest related to his dead boyfriend. And just "speedrun" the only single main quest he's put into yuour ship.
He'll stay as long as the reason you picked him up isn't fullfiled. But from memory it's just like go there, kill one thing, drop him base, bybye baret.
Wrong.. I always listen to dialogue. He joined after the lodge attack for no reason. It felt like a bug tbh.
