Starfield is overheating my PC *fixed*
Edit: after all the bandwagon piling on instead of constructive feedback I fixed the problem. Reinstalled shaders back down to 50c temps running fine. So if you run into this problem in the future of temps getting get high playing reinstall shaders. Could be a caching issue over time it's a large game after all.

I know a bunch of people are gonna come in here and say not sufficient cooling but lemme go ahead and squash that.

I have a full custom water loop. GPU to 360 rad to CPU to 360 rad to distro plate. I've played every single game to date at Max settings on my 6900xt 5900x at 1440p sitting at under 60c at max load for hours and hours.

This game ran butter smooth for about 25 hours. And now I can't play more than 10 mins before my CPU is at 100c and shuts off. And this is from sitting at 39c idle before game starts. Tried other games still no problem. Pulled fans cleaned fans. Cleaned rads. Checked thermal paste. Applied new thermal paste. Pump flowing just as strong as ever. D5s never die.

This is pretty frustrating considering how much of a Bethesda fan I am. But this just flat out sucks now. And I'm at a really good point in the story too. This is Definitely not a cooling issue something screwed is going on with the game.

lol, my 3070ti 3440x1440 high settings 62% fsp doesn't overheat.

fix pc

I have not noticed any oddities. My PC is running pretty cool and dead silent when playing the game (i9-13900K, RTX 4090, MSI AiO liquid cooling).

What else do you want us to say? It's not the game.

Um not always. Bannerlord had an issue that caused parts of it to ignore vsync and go for max fps bringing cpu and gpus to throttle.

I was thinking a water cooled PC with proper controls should not overheat no matter what you are doing. It shouldn't even let itself. I'm not sure you have a problem with your PC but it sounds like you do.

How about getting proper cooling...?

Both my CPU and GPU never go over 70c, and not even wartercooled

If you have Watercooling, its severe broken

My 5900X and RTX 3080 are sitting at 42C and 39C right now. It is definitely your PC that is the issue. Sounds like the water pump or fans on your radiator have died.

It's not the software causing your hardware to have a heat problem, only your hardware can do that. The software is creating load that your hardware is unable to handle. Have you tried just replacing the water cooling with air cooling purely to troubleshoot if air cooling causes that issue or not? I would do that as a first step to understanding what's going on. If you don't have any air cooling as a backup at all..point a fan at your open case as you run the game - does it heat up slower/last longer? then your cooling is to blame somehow.
I had this problem with Baulder's gate 3. Turn on a fan you will be fine.

What game is this?

If it get to 100C. YOu should check your CPU cooler. Your pump might have failed it happens. Non moving water does not transfer heat. My CPU does not get near that hot.

Sigh I literally explain this in detail and knew I was going to get this response. None of this happens in any other game at all. Bg3 runs fine. Wz2 is fine. Even this game was fine at first until I hit the 20 hour mark. Its certainly not the hardware. And I see other people and articles posting about this now. There is a problem with the game. Clearly. But sure it's definitely my hardware that has zero problems on any other game.

Look I get it. I love Bethesda too but let's not kid ourselves that a just released Bethesda title is going to have no problems. Cause if you think that you must be very very very new to Bethesda titles.

Same with Total War: Three Kingdoms, specifically on the map screen. There's been several poorly optimized releases in the last few years that act up if Vsync and/or frame caps aren't set. Being a bethesda game, it's highly likely that Starfield can be added to that list.
