some reason after i rebooted the game the saving stopped giving me error so no idea why it even did it first time.
For me, step 1 did the work (had to reinstall one drive to do step 1, but it worked)
https://gameserrors.com/starfield-failed-to-create-save-game/#:~:text=Lack%20of%20permission%3A%20The%20first,creating%20the%20save%20game%20file.
The game uses Cloud saving on Steam and XBoxLive/Gamepass, so as long as you have internet, Some of your savegames should be ok.. "out there".
(Have not tried the game offline)
We did the following to fix the issue on my sons XBox-GamePass-account.
- Logged on on my "new gaming PC". (one of 3 gaming PCs in the house)
- Logged on to the cloud/game account, (XBox-GamePass)
- Installed and started the game. (all binaries was there already, but userconfig needed creation/discovery of gamefiles)
- The last save was defect. We loaded the last game before this one, and it loaded ok.
- Tried saving on the "New Gaming PC", and it worked fine.
- Logged off "New shiny PC".
- Logged on to the "Old gamingPC" (z170/i5/16GB/1TB-nvme/GF1060)
- Started XBox/Starfield, and loaded the savegame again.
- Game loaded fine and saving worked again.
Seems to happen due to Game-save-sync-cache issues.
When game have been started on another computer to sync data, it seems to force full sync again on the first computer with failing local save-cache.
