Starfield is mediocre.
You have been warned, the game doesn't do anything good quality wise.
Sure It does many thing, but only at mediocre level.

People like to defend the game saying it's Skyrim in space, but no.
Skyrim has real good open world level design, possibility to progress without fast travling every 2minutes, better AI and even better UI wich is incredble since Skyrim UI was bad.
Starfield is just the Bethesda game recipe wringed out of all his substance.
The game has huge gamedesign flaws space navigation wise will it was supposed to be his main asset.
Same when it comes to exploring empty procedural generated planets on foot only.
Not even talking about the outdated NPC look and animation compared to BG3.

Anyway, you have been lied(as usual), and Starfield isn't good.
Now you do what you wants, but I suggest to buy Starfield in several months when patch + mods are a things to salvage the few things that can be saved from this game.

sum of the secretes i found are amazing - just the city under water was out of this world.

That sounds really unhealthy.

I believe him but I'm not sure I can put 50-100h in the game for the CHANCE of it getting better. Not if the first 50h were a literal chore.

Mods, mods, mods, like they can fix everything.. at this point I believe at bethesda they said: "lets make a mediocre game, the community will fix the rest themselves for free and we sell it in 3 editions over the next 10 years" fr at this point bethesda should just sell their mod kits and let people make their own game ffs

I am considering refunding currently. 50-50 on it since the game is likely going to be decent with modding but in vanilla it is BAD.

I think the games combat is far below mediocre and space combat is bad. Combat is boring and characters often just stand, are stuck in animation, dont know what to do or randomly jump around and even on hardest you can stand still and pop shots at most enemies since the combat AI is completely broken.

Space combat is passable, but mostly bland and very dumbed down.
Also there is no free flying around between moons/planets/locations at all. You always teleport/fast travel. -No free roaming and exploration in this game-

Outpost is what ive spent a lot of hours on also, and it is incredibly bad, along with planet design itself.

You land on a planet/moon and it will create a closed area you cannot leave and generates random generic "locations" to explore. After two to four planets they offer you absolutely nothing of interest. Making outposts to get specific materials in my opinion is extremely tedius and once i found out i cant properly link everything by making a centralized storage unit to distribute from, to far off worlds, i just felt like it is a colossal waste of time.
I build a lot in my games and i think Starfields outpost system is pure garbage.

I really wanted to like it but.. finding out *NEW GAME PLUS* the whole point of the games story seems to be about doing 10 new game pluses to see all of the story and alternate universes really crushed my interest. Like It's cool if it was a linear narrative game like Nier, (and even that let you keep your money and weapons) but losing everything but your levels ups is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in an RPG.

Adding onto the already uninteresting exploration and this is a major step down from fallout 3 even. Like does Bethesda not know that what makes their games so great is how well put together the world is and how easy it is to get lost in the landscape? You cant get lost in the landscape when the landscape is dirt, dust, and trees with the same 3 caves and bases on them.

I'll still play it on gamepass, but man am I glad they refunded me the constellation edition. And if I still cant get into it at least No Mans Sky is still regularly updated with new content.

100% agreed.

Game is a bland and average RPG, and a bad space exploration game.

Refunded after 35 hours, might maybe play it once it goes down to <30$ + DLCs + Mods

Bethesda REALLY needs a W, between Fallout 76, Redfall and Starfield it ain't looking good.
Even Microsoft need a homerun in the gaming space.
They been investing too much without any real returns.
you played for 35 hrs? seems like you enjoyed it quite alot

I'm watching a friend play it and it does seem rather ho hum. Not terrible, but certainly nothing mind blowing.

I had the same thought when I read posts like this. The person is trying to force his enjoyment of the game by grinding through it. That's not a hobby, that's straight up addiction.

i feel like they are following some old designs without criticizing why that stuff is there. Maybe customers are partially "at fault" (not really) for this because they would feel strange if they played a bethesda game without encumbrance. Maybe mods will change that.
encumbrance is not the problem for me, the problem is fast traveling every 2 minutes and finding a billion variants of the same gun and constantly having to change things, doing hideouts where you get nothing after beating them and generally outdated gameplay which was modern in 2015.
dude I swear every major game except some from soft suffer from this. Jesus christ, why have so much trash loot. Balance your game around less loot. I swear to god I believe they do this to increase gameplay time, theres no other explanation. I love some AA or indie games Ive played where loot is minimal and then you beat the game in 12 hours like sweet clean experience. Then there are these with trash loot where 10 to 20% of gameplay time is spent managing loot and calculating money/weight to decide what youre bringing and not.

It is really not interesting game and these are 23 year old mechanics that honestly should be revised

you are right they all do this and its even worse when most of the stuff you get is useless or worse than you current equipment.. for me less is more in those cases. FOr example I LOVE Baldurs Gate 3 but I dreaded when it was time to clean up INV.

Larian also suffers from this. Divinity 1 and 2 and BG3 all have tons of loot. Granted, they have the special unique items which are what drives me to find new stuff, but the common and uncommon, jesus christ why even bother. Pillars of eternity 1 and 2 had the same problem.

Bruh I'm playing BG3, Starfield looks like the average Bethesda experience, Buggy and should wait for modders to actually finish it. You're the only one here with some sort of mental issue

Woke stuff aside, another big problem with this game is lack of mature contents. Hell, it doen't even have basic gore like FO4 and skyrim. And I can tell some places like the infested drilling platform can be a lot better if it's there's more gore
Yep, i was asking that myself too. Why tf is there no gore? I know its a new franchise, but its so similar to fallout 4. Were they too lazy to create assets for torn suits? Man, this game just doesnt stop to disappoint.

can this be solved by modders? I mean the gory models could even be ripped straight from fallout 4, since bethesda seem to have used almost the same engine as fo:4... Im hopeful itll be something attainable.

I didn't say Bethesda Games Studios needed a win.
I said Bethesda needed a win.
Their named is tagged to the product, their logo is on the cover.
They have a win. Just not for you.
