This Game Making Anyone Else Nauseous?
I have an RTX 4070, all my usual suspect settings are off, but I cannot play this for anymore than a few mins and I start getting sick. V-Sync on and off doesn't make a diff. No setting seems to. What did they do to her?

Probably motion sickness. Look up how to increase the FOV.

No.
But these forums sure do..
Adjust your settings, turn of Motion blur if you haven't already
Or maybe go see a doctor as (honestly) it could be a symptom of something else like an inner ear infection and stuff.

Definitely increase FOV. It's the first thing I did when I first launched the game, as I am very prone to motion sickness while gaming when FoV is not high enough.

I've played a bit over 30 hours without any motion sickness issues yet. The first things I did on being able to play the game are:
  • Increase FoV
  • Disable TAA
  • Disable Motion Blur
  • Disable Depth of Field
  • Play the Game

Worth noting that I have been gaming for a VERY long time, and I didn't start having motion sickness issues until I was older (early 30's). So even if you don't normally experience the issue when gaming, you could be changing.

Play third-person zoomed out.

If you aren't used to first-person gaming it takes at least 20 hours to get used to it.

I don't think it's the visuals. The game looks amazing on my computer.

However, in some areas the camera view can make you sick. It doesn't have the best indoor environments even for third-person view. And all of the details and tiny items that you have to hunt around for makes matters worse.

I don't know how to best put this into words... is the mouse speed the culprit? Maybe if you could reduce the time it takes for the game to turn your character or the camera when you move the mouse?

Its the usual Bethesda Micro Bouncing of the Background every time you move/walk run.
Watch the mountains in the background and the whole world bounces a few mils.
For Skyrim and Fallout 4 and ESO have to wait for anti nausea mods to get released then your good to go, otherwise no fov change or other settings will make a difference.

ESO had settings but they never worked, the whole earth shakes moves and bounces every time you take a step.

Maybe if we ask nicely enough the kind people who made those mods for FO4 and SKYrim can get an early start for a Starfield anti head-bob/ anti nausea mod.

Recoil from weapons esp auto weapons as well shakes the world and the screen with horrific micro stutters.

No Recoil mods for those of us who are inflicted with permanent motion sickness problems and concussive injuries from active duty appreciate such things..

Dont use multiple monitor and duplicate your screen when playing this game, and dont run in borderless if you really got a decent GPU you can tho.

What is giving people motion sickness is not what some may think. Usually you get alot of ineffective tips to turn off things that are not even what is causing motion sickness.

The number one effect that causes motion sickness in games is "screen shake" or "head bob". When the screen shakes up and down while you walk or run around. It is even worse when mining materials cause then the whole screen shakes erratically. They have even added it in third person mode in this game which is unusual for third person mode.

There is no option to remove this effect in the game right now and sadly I don't think there will ever be, because people complained about it in Fallout 4 too but they never added the option to turn it off. Maybe some modders can do something, but don't hope too much yet.

As someone who does get motion sickness from games when the PoV is too low and who NEVER turns off screenshake, I can assure you that the problem is not Screen shake in quite a lot of games. For me, it is always FoV.

Starfield doesn't actually have all of that much camera shake outside of piloting the Starship (which can be disabled with a quick ini edit). What you are talking about isn't screen shake, it's head bob. Slight distinction. And it's also not all that bad in Starfield. It can be bypassed by playing in 3rd person ( but that's less than ideal, I agree).

Yes, low FOV can also make you feel nauseous. Usually when the FOV is set lower than 90. I do not disagree with that. Luckily the FOV can be changed in this game with mods or text file editing. But when it comes to Screen shake effects or Head bob, there have been many articles about it and even studies which show how it makes people motion sick and in the main culprit for most people. Just because you don't get affected by it does not mean others don't. Usually it starts to affect people more after a certain age, according to the study it was alot after 30 years old if I remember correctly.

This game has head bobbing when you walk or run, more than enough to affect people who get motion sick by it, it also has camera shaking when you are mining as an example. In real life the brain adjusts for moving around, you don't see the world hopping up and down when you walk about.

Games that have head bob effects are basically giving you the same effect you get when on a boat, things moving around without you doing it and your sense of balance get tricked and you get motion sick. I don't mind it as long as there is a toggle to turn it off, it is unbelievable neglect that this games has neither a fov slider or a toggle for something like head bob and camera shake effects.

tried all possible combinations editing the ini file with no avail (all 'blur' variables, fov, FPS caps on nvidia settings, lowered all graphics). I don't know what is that cause the nausea, last thing to try is waiting for a mod for the head bob effect (which I don't notice while walking in 1stP but doesn't mean that the bobbing effect is not there), unless you have/found something else that helped you

Did you try changing the FOV? I felt the same way but there's a mod on Nexus that explains how to change it and I've been fine since.
Nemo Sep 8, 2023 @ 7:20am
hi, yes I did try to change the FOV, also tested various values
