Starfield had a budget of $200 million
As the title says.
I think it is interesting enough to talk about what one should expect from such a budget and the amount of people involved in the game.

As for the source
https://exputer.com/news/games/starfield-200-million-budget-500-devs/

What do you think, did the game deliver what was expected? What do you think is missing? What is awesome? and so forth.

Personally I think they missed the mark with making this into a bard.. By removing all RPG elements, they ended up with a dull Action Adventure, with shooter looter combat.
That being said, the scope of the game is huge, but its not free roam, so well.. The ship building system is pretty good and a great addition.

Overall I am biased against it and a tad shocked that they used 200 millions to develop the game and for 7 years.

That sounds much more realistic than the post earlier today claiming 400 million.

Which would be ridiculous for a game that people suddenly hate.

Thats chicken feed. Star Citizen has churned through about 3 times that and its still nowhere near finished.

They delivered. There's a ton of content and customization options.

Yeah, I mean I don't really care about all the space travel stuff. It is a fairly ambitious game though, and personally I don't know why they didn't just keep the game to a few star systems with handcrafted planets with DLC that visit different ones, I don't really understand their approach here because they obviously knew their limitations.

But, the rpg stuff, the quests, exploration, etc? It's exactly what I expected and I love it.

it was 200 - 400 mill easily to make, 7 years dev time + covid + rebuilding the entire engine mid dev cause MS scrapped creation engine.

What RPG stuff? this game is void from it.

I do however agree that it was a very ambitious game and that they made the scope to large, they should have narrowed it down and focused more on quality, even more so when they don´t actually have seemlessly flying, but hub to hub fast travel.

And yet, star citizen (the game people keep comparing this to) has a budget of 600 million, and is no where near being finished.

Star Citizen have used around 500 million, but lets be honest here, we should not compare them, since they are not that a like.

Most games don´t reach this amount, unless they are mmoRPGs.
This game has to really sell well to make a profit.

???

I have been flying around surveying planets for two days

I go to whatever planet I want

I land wherever I want

I walk around doing whatever I want

I see virtually no combat

How is this not free roam

I think its an odd comparison.

What I would compare this game to is other Action Adventures with Shooter looter combat. In this regard Starfield is not really a bad game, nor great.. I dare say it is decent.
But being promoted as an RPG was a mistake in my opinion. That is why some many people are annoyed and have refunded.

What the ♥♥♥♥ are you talking about. This game runs on the same engine as FO4, just slightly updated.
