He3
I am super confused.

Is this a cut mechanic? I see references to helium-3 being used as Grav-jump fuel, and as an actual expendable resource.

Even when I built a helium-3 outpost extractor, I got a popup saying:
"Building helium 3 extractors in an outpost allows you to automatically refuel your ship when you plot a grav jump to or through the outpost's planet. you can set up a chain of refueling outposts to extend the reach of your exploration"

- Like what? Right now, my He3 automatically refills every time I jump. I assume this is not how it was originally intended, and that originally you would be limited how far you could leave civilized space by how much He3 you could carry?

I think it's bugged or not working right now, The way it makes it sound is that if you have an outpost that produces He3, then it resets your grav jump range. But this isn't the case it seems.

Its either cut, or jumping through the planet does not use fuel towards your max jump distance.

Right now I can just jump infinitely. I think its supposed to deplete, and STAY depleted until manually refilled or flyby an outpost to go further.

It extends your jump distance. If your post sits within the plotted path, you'll be able to jump further than normal in a single plot.

Sounds useless. The only difference between 240 fuel vs 120 fuel is half the cutscenes/loading.

I like the idea that you'd actually have to find he3 sources in order to venture further than your fuel tank will go.
Ya know, like Star Citizen. lol.

Yeah can confirm, not working at all for me either.

It's something cut late. You hear a lot of dialogue about fuel isn't free, there's even a perk that would help with fuel consumption. Apparently it made the game less fun for many people to constantly have to "gas up" the ship every few jumps. Maybe they'll add it in later as a survival mechanic, as it did sound interesting - you're out of fuel for the grav drive so you land on a planet or moon and mine enough H3 to continue on. It might get annoying, so hard to say, maybe it was a good cut.

I like things like that. They make the game world feel real. Like eating and feeding horses in RDR 2. These things are part of living the space sci-fi fantasy.

But there is a video of Todd talking about how they made it so you can't run out of fuel because it wasn't fun. But I think that kind of thing is fun. Stressing over fuel would make it feel more real IMO. Just have it part of the difficulty settings so people can turn it off and on. It's a single player game so there's not a problem with being flexible with that sort of thing.
