Any way to store books and/or put them on display?

I collected all the books in skyrim and had a huge library in my house of all the ingame books. I want to do the same for this but I dont know where to store them. Since the maps are generated, everytime I put stuff i collect onto a shelf a little while later it will be gone and be back in my space ship inventory. I put a bunch of plushies, and snow globes above my bed in the ship on the shelves where the broken helmet is and base ball thing is, and when i went back to add more stuff everything was gone and it was all in my ship cargo!!!

I think your best bet is to make an outpost and store and display your books on shelves there. I don't think they really intended your ships to be decorated and have stuff placed like that in it. Hence the reason why they are already completely furnished when you get them or upgrade spots on them.
I just built an outpost on a planet and made some shelves and put them on the walls and then put the books on them. And they have not disappeared or shown back up in my inventory yet since I have done that.

It could be because whenever you change anything on your ship, a hab module or the ships weapons. It dumps everything into the cargo hold. It comes up with a message when you configure your ship and go to confirm the changes. I didn’t realise what it meant at first, when I made a change to the missile launcher on the razorback, it completely emptied my armoury into the cargo hold.
You can do some decorating, I’ve done some light decorating by dropping items on tables and stuff and seems to be fine. Just make sure your ship is exactly how you want it before start decorating

you should be able to drop it then hold "E" which picks it up and just place it where you want. From my knowledge it wont disappear if its in your hab
