Settings not saving?
Anyone having issue with some settings not saving between playing the game. I turn off subtitles, I adjust my mouse sensitivity, I turn off cross hair, turn on damage numbers, then when I exit the game and restart they are all reset.

This also happened to me in Fallout 4 but it was just with the audio settings.

Any thoughts?

Go to:
C:\Users\LazerShot\Documents\My Games\Starfield

Yours would be your name:
C:\Users\Behemothrex\Documents\My Games\Starfield

Or just go to Documents\My Games\Starfield

Find and right-click on StarfieldPrefs, remove the Read-only check mark.
Load up your game and make your changes.
You can set it back to Read-only if you want after you are satisfied or simply leave it as unchecked.

Sounds like either onedrive overwriting changes or antivirus making files read only for ransomware protection.

Hmm will check it out, I don't believe I have one drive but who knows with all the bloat ware these days, I do run Avast maybe I can white list Starfield.

my setting also don't save, closed onedrive and exculded starfield but it doesn't work

Check ransomware protection on windows defender or other antivirus. It usually targets documents folder.
Typhonnn Sep 6, 2023 @ 7:26am
I turned it off, and exculuded all related folders.
I play on gamepass if it makes any difference

Could be windows permissions. Are you logged in as administrator?
Typhonnn Sep 6, 2023 @ 7:35am
yes, I also ran as admin and it didn't work
turned off all windows antivirus and it still didn't work

Do you have any other programs that sync files contents? Drop box for example?
Typhonnn Sep 6, 2023 @ 7:59am
nope

Did you make sure the file wasn’t “read only”? This was my mistake. I got p’d off and uninstalled it out of anger(as we all do) only to realize the files were set to “read only” and that was the issue. Worked for me, but no guarantee in pc world where the tiniest thing makes you want to throw your pc into traffic and watch the cars smash it to bits only to realize it was you that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up 🤣🤣

Which file are you talking about? I'm on the Game Pass version of the game. Whenever I close the game or the game crashes the graphics settings reset to default. Very annoying.

When I try to edit the Starfield.exe permission with the cmd (as admin) I get access is denied. All the other files are editable but not the exe.

It worked with me ONLY in this way (for the Key-Bindings) :

1. Start the game;
2. "Settings" -> "Bindings" : redo all the bindings but DO NOT exit this framework yet;
3. ALT+TAB to the Desktop and open the "Documents\My Games\Starfield" folder;
4. DELETE the "ControlMap_Custom.txt" file;
5. ALT+TAB back to the game;
6. NOW exit from the bindings framework;

... and that's it !

The game should have rebuild the file "ControlMap_Custom.txt" from scrath, preserving, once and forever, all your key-bindings.
