using all low except population density high+dlss mod+performance optimiser mod
barely 60 fps
Given that the 2060 is a tad below the official recommended 2080 on the store page, I would wait until Bethesda acknowledges and works on the optimization problem and/or for the modding community to keep improving on it.
There are some performance related mods, such as DLSS, which are already available. This is just my experience, but these mods have not alleviated any of my performance problems significantly.
I'm on a 3700x + RTX 2060 and performance is great on medium.
See performance settings in https://youtu.be/40iwgUjBmoA?si=0xkHE-Z94wLNLj-y for extra tweaks.
Also have zero issues with MSFS on high/ultra.
Thanks all.
I'm running on 2K on the RTX2060, no problems at all.
This custom ini file is great too, with a couple of additions:

Once you get over the learning curve (~10 to 15 hours) it's great.
Also, formation flying practice with spaceships is totally doable and great fun.
I'm not even expecting 60fps, or asking for 60fps, I just want to have a playable experience, and if there are people suggesting I can do it, then it might be worth a 12 eur gamepass to try out.
They stick everything on Ultra and then complain that it glitches. Duh.
Same with MSFS.
No issues with it on an RTX 2060 on medium with some tweaks.
Also, be wary of what else you're running when starting Starfield, kill all your background apps as it seems sensitive to other apps that might be using the GPU++, though that could be the twitchy DLSS mod at work. Still, best to let it have all the resources.
I play with most settings on medium except for Grass Quality and GTAO quality, which I have set to High and the following all turned off:
The game looks very good, imo, with those settings.

I should mention, I am using DLSS (with the mod available at Nexusmods), but I'm not using any image scaling with it. I've got it set so that it is giving me DLAA. My resolution is 2560 x 1440.
Yeah, performance is soooooo bad that RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 super players are just fine on medium with a few tweaks. Whatever.
Even on the standard medium preset with no tweaks or DLSS mod it was fine on my RTX 2060.
You can get premium on Frontier for 17% off, just saying😜
I think you need to put at least 10 to 15 hours into it until it clicks before deciding.
There's a lot of systems to learn, and it really doesn't click until you get to the aha moment.
I really don't get all the hate going around for SF tbh.
tiktok attention spanners is a big problem now.
I have 2000+ hrs in MSFS, ~1600 hrs in ED, 150+ in NMS, and refunded Starcitizen twice and all I can say is that Starfield works plenty fine for me technically and gameplay wise. It's not an instant ramen game, it's a slow burn n' learn.
You don't need to obsess about the FPS either, it's fine. Even better with some tweaks.
Looks great to me. I like the base look n' feel, it fits the vibe better than any of the "realism" reshade mods I looked at.
Personally, I don’t think Starfield looks visually stunning enough to justify the current performance being seen on many systems, especially on some of those higher end rigs with 4090’s.
For example, Hardware Unboxed just did this video and a 4090 only averaged 91 FPS on High 1440p. That card should probably be doing a lot better than that.
