Stole a ship (I think) Now what?
So I landed at this science outpost on a planet. Ran to the outpost, and there was a ship parked there. I went to the hatch, and it was locked (advanced). I successfully boarded the ship. 8-) I can take off, so does that mean I stole it? lol I Googled stealing ships, but this method is not mentioned at all. I've read that I need to go to a city and get it registered. But what happens to my starter ship? Does it stay where I parked it? How do I get it back to me? Clearly I'm a beginner thief, but a pretty good lock pick. : P

Or maybe someone can point me to a guide.
Yup, it means you stole it. If you flew it away, you have it, but you have to register it at a ship vendor to modify it. Other ship goes into fleet storage.

If you go to somewhere like New Atlantis with a ship merchant you can either register it and keep it or just sell it.

Take it to a space port, talk to the technician and register it. Then sell it (in the managing your fleet section of the same NPC). Only capital ships (B or C class) are worth the trouble though. A class ships are better kept or simply destroyed to advance your piloting rank.

you have register it to sell it. i stole one of them snake cultist ships. i took it to a port with a ship merchant. it cost 13k so register the ship, i sold it for 16k so i made 3k or so. when you visit the ship merchant ask him to see what ships are for sale. you can choose it to be your home ship or you can go back to the frontier. I choose to sell it the cargo space sucked
You need to PAY to register it and then sell it to get a partial profit.

Gotta spends money to make money, even when stealing I guess.

I don't have the game yet but from what I've seen your starter ship is in storage with all the items in its storage

The ship you stole needs to be registered with the same people you go to for ship repairs and modifications which cost a fee. At that point you can keep or sell the ship
I guess first I need to see what class the stolen ship is and then if it is better/worse than my starter. I could not find anything on google, about picking a lock on a parked ship to steal it. This was a blast! Hard lock. I spent about 20 minutes on it.
Update: So as soon as I took off, I was attacked. They mentioned stealing on the comms. : P I dealt with the two attacking ships. Now I have to see if I'm wanted all over the galaxy. :P Maybe once I register it, I'll be ok.

I found a Science Outpost on Mars where a captain there ask for water. They had a ship and had an advanced lock so I picked it and flew away with their ship. It was surprisingly easy. It was a crappy A class ship, a Dagger I think, and I made about 1500 credits by registering and selling it.

And that's the stupid part, register a stolen ship.

Well yeah because we all no once you steal a vehichle the change the owner registration for free? And people line up to pay full price for a vehichle you don't have the title for? I mean should be a duh I mean I am suprised you can do it at any ship broker feels like you need like shady place ship broker to do it, like in skyrim you had to find fences to sell stolen junk lol

Nah people do this all tiem in real life they ship some where else they know its stolen and just register it as not there. Most the nice cars stolen get shipped to places who don't care if its vin is registered stolen lol. The rest get parted out.

Same deal here I just feel should be like specific type of shady ship broker who will overide ship registry for a fee as it very likely a criminal act lol
I guess I was focused on the fun part of finding a ship at an outpost, picking the hatch lock and flying off with it. 8-)
