Do you think they are trying to go some "immersive sim" route or something? Like, everything you do feels real or whatever? I mean, i'm glad i never have to see that "Miss" i kept seeing in Morrowind but there is no mechanics at all. It is all very polished but strangely empty. Even CoD now has perks and levels.
How is this a good thing? It's doesn't have the best gunplay out there, it doesn't have the best dogfights a game can offer, now you say it doesn't have the complexity of a Bethesda game in terms of RPG mechanics. This wouldn't be a bad thing if the game had a lot of other things to offer.
The thing that made Bethesda games in the first place are the character progression, RPG elements and the story. From what i've heard even that isn't up to par. What are we left with though? It seems boring af.
Skyrim got dumbed down compared to Oblivion and Fallout 4 got dumbed down compared to F3 and F:NV.
Do you remember the level system in Skyrim? Health, Magicka or Stamina is all you can raise at a level up.
But isn't it great that we got a perk tree now?
What? Oblivion had perks too? I must be kidding right?
Well no, every skill had an affixed perk, when you reach level 25, 50, 75 and 100.
Like with 100 Acrobatics you were able to jump on the water, even though it is bugged til this day, as you start to hover over ground after you jumped over the water and reached the shore.
Only hovering into a rock can fix that issue.
BUT, Oblivion had Strength, Intelligence, Willpower, Agility, Speed, Endurance, Personality and Luck as attributes to be leveled up.
It was surely also quite a plain and very unforgiving level system.
But at least something you'd expect from a role playing game.
Not like that ridiculous Skyrim one. Also if you compare Oblivion with Morrowind, Morrowind with Daggerfall, you'll realise that A LOT of skills got spared. So dumbind down was something Bethesda did since they started making games.
They always spared a few skills and erased a few options from the game.
Fallout had also their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and skills and also perks.
What did Fallout 4 do?
YEAAAAAHHHH... We erase the skills and merge them into the perks. Because who wants to plan their char?
Everything should be easy and plain...
In Starfield they somewhat merged the "learning by doing" from TES (you need to do some challenges before you are allowed to put a perk point into a specific perk) into the perk system of Fallout.
It still feels different enough, as here the stamina is basically tied to the oxygen meter.
Carrying too much depletes that meter very quickly and raises the CO2-meter which damages you when it is full.
Such mechanics weren't seen in any Bethesda game before (at least not vanilla) and it fits quite nice to this space simulation.

My recommendation is to rather play a game like Mass Effect to get an idea of Starfield. I've played Mass Effect 1 til Virmire before I started with Starfield and was very much in the best mood to play this sci fi gem.
Still am. :)
We're left with the final crutch of "mods will fix it".
Mods will re-shuffle the perk system, mods will make space travel functional and exciting, mods will make empty wastelands teem with fun adventures, mods will get rid of load screens and menu-management, mods will...
Unrealistic expectation, its not like entire teams of 200+ people will suddenly start crafting content for a game they find boring to play.
Some people found Skyrim that boring that they created a whole new game.

This is a joke. I am not assuming SureAI found Skyrim boring!
dont need to all caps. Makes you look like a child and this is coming from me, a guy with aspergers and mentally acts like a stupid highschooler.
BUT I like this game alot. and ive played every main line bethesda game (aside from fall out 76) since morrowind. Ive got thousands of hours across all the games.
It is a lot like fall out in space though.
ANd its unique for bethesda. Otherwise no game is really actually truly unique.
Its all opinions on what is good, unless the game is like cyberpunk on last gen lmao
Yeah, Skyrim, one of the most succesful games of all time. We will just have to wait and see then i guess. I do hope they actually make the game more of what i thought we would be getting...
