Does ship mass effect anything important?

I know it reduces manuvability but is that the worst of it? Can i overload my ship into a killing machine?

it affects speed and maneuverability

think it hurts speed as well not sure.

but it wont make much difference - can only have 1 shield and 1 reactor.. so they'll be your big limits.

being hard/slow to turn is going to make hitting stuff harder.. but w/ turrets.. maybe?

Grav drive travel distance also which will become important nearing the end of the main story.

I haven't fully tested it out, but I'm wondering if the razor leaf ship is just well made? I've upgraded the weapons and the grav drive, and while the mass does go up, the speed and mobility don't change according to the numbers in the ship builder. I even added 6 vanguard particle beams and it didn't affect the ship at all. Also, I added another hab for an extra crew member while ship building and it still didn't affect it. The stats do change on my other ships if I do change things around. Can anyone else confirm this?
