Should I choose a faction starting trait? (Free Star / UC etc)

I was thinking of doing my first playthrough as 1 faction, like Free Star for example, then on a NG+ or a 2nd playthrough, doing a UC native.

However I was wondering, how much does that actually matter or change/effect the gameplay? Is it just like 1 extra dialogue option then just gives 1-2 extra sentences in a convo that ends with the same result anyway?

Also, is there a way to change / add / remove faction traits?

I chose UC and damn... good story line so far..

I don't know for those traits but the one that give you a fan is kind of funny

Yeah I was also thinking going UC. Soldier background with UC Native trait.

But I am wondering, when it's time to do NG+, can I change my trait and do a different storyline trait?

Really? I chose freestar myself, and I have yet to see any changed dialogue, though I have to admit I have yet to really start the main story as I keep getting distracted by bounty board quests,especially the destroy pirate ships though i usually end up capturing them instead (or getting annoyed when I discover I've boarded a really nice one only to learn i cant capture it cause my piloting isnt high enough yet😓)
