Why do Planets etc. look so bad?
I really enjoy space games - but this game just fails to create that atmosphere in space - at first i thought maybe my PC is buggy and thats the reason why space flight looks so bad - but after watching some lets plays it seems to be looking as bad and bland for everyone:

The Ship etc. is okay but why do the planets look so bad and why is everything the background in space mostly blue?

I dont expect star citizen planetary landing or star citizen quality. But yes i would expect at least some wow factor by having planets with good textures and effects.

in Starfield planets look as if they are just 2D with a flat texture and some weird glow.

This is what i think planets should look like:

This actually makes me want to fly arround and actually makes me interrested in space travel and planets.

At this point it feels as if Bethesda pretty much is an excuse for bad design and ppl will accept it because it was never different. Its the same with the UI - it was bad in almost all Bethesda games, or Faces, Animations, Dialogue - but people just say "hey its just how it is with those games" - but im just having a hard time justifying the price since their games get more and more expensive - we now even pay extra to be able to play at launch.

Because its not a space game, its fallout but they stuck the different towns on different "planets" and gave you a little jump animation to make you think that you're playing a space game

But then why even use that theme? Without the atmosphere space exploration adds the theme makes absolutely no sense. Like this its just bad - we have very small areas with loading screens - and also the in between is medicore. Would have prefered a big open world like in Skyrim or Fallout 4 to this.

And why cant they look better? Since space is pretty limited to a small area and planets hardly have many textures or polygones since you cant even land on them without a loading screen - shouldnt there be more then enough spare ressources to at least make it look great?

Without seamless landing its nothing more than a background texture, a few globes with texture and the ships. So it should be the least demanding area in the game.

Agree to disagree I suppose, personally I think the game is really pretty in most places and it'll look insane when the modders get going

So if you click on my first link - you seriously think this looks good? Or when you flew to the first planet - was there any "wow effect" for you?

Sorry but this looks horrible - like from a game from 20 years ago. And even then that would have been called outdated ...

Yes some other parts look better but this looks awful.

Fallout 4 graphics at release were good - especially considering the size of the map without loading screens.

But okay 20 Years maybe was a bit much - lets say 10 years.
