is it possible to force companions to wear suits?
Is it possible to make companions wear space suits while in settlements/breathable areas?
I gave them really good looking space suits that i want to see them wear more often :(

from what I've tested, nope. Sarah wears back her brown-vested shirt or whatever apparel you give her to wear underneath her space suit. But she will never wear the space suit itself indoors. Hopefully a mod fixes this

Yep, enter their inventory and you can have them equip and de-equip items like in Fallout 4.

EDIT: Sorry didn't understand the question. I don't think so currently, but a Mod will 100% fix this.

yeah i can make them wear the suit when its needed, however when they are in a "breathable area" they change back to their regular clothes. i want them to always wear the space suit but it seems thats not possible right now. maybe later on with mods and or a patch.

It's a bug. The same problem can happen with your "hide helmet/armor". THey just permanently bugged.
Something expected from Bethesda. Will get fixed at Launch, most likely.

This is an insane, almost absurd, oversight. The suits are armor. The companions constantly break stealth but you can't give them armor to deal with this. Enemies wear suits inside, you wear suits inside, the companions are the only people who won't wear armor inside.

How can this possibly be a thing? Why would they refuse to wear armor in combat? It's truly absurd.

This isn't something that should have required a mod. It literally doesn't make any sense and it's impossible that play tests didn't have people saying "Why is my companion in street clothes in combat?"

If it's a bug that's a very odd bug but if it's a choice it's incomprehensible.

Do you have an actual example? The inventory shows multiple numbers...are the numbers the ID? Or do we type out the entire line? What would an actual line look like for sarah in this example?

With these console commands syntax is everything. So if we don't know the proper syntax for the commands, we can't use them.

You open the console. Left-click on your companion, after which his id will appear in the center of the screen.

Next, enter the command showinventory. Once you have a list of items, next to each of them there will be an id.

Next, enter the command to removeitem and the id of this item

For example
(~)
Left-click on NPC
showinventory ( without id ;) )
removeitem 001823cc

Also, in order for a companion to wear a spacesuit, his headdress must also be removed.

You can also go a simpler way by entering the command openactorcontainer 1 on the NPC (Doesn't always work)

If when you left-click on an NPC the wrong id is shown, then use the Scroll wheel
If you need achievements, then download a mod from nexusmods, which will allow you to work with the console and receive them

Sarah will be on The Moon and as soon as we get into combat, she takes off her space suit and is perfectly fine.

It just works.

Thank you so much for posting this. Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Likely I am doing something wrong. But I typed exactly what you listed and she still wore the damn clothes. But thank you for actually answering the question. I appreciate it.

The Nexus Mod from BioVein above did work however. It doesn't force her to wear the suit. But it does expose her default clothes in the inventory when you trade with her...so now you can unequip them like anything else.

Thank you for doing this! It worked. I did not understand at first because nothing appeared to change. But your mod doesn't actually force her to wear anything...it just exposes her outfit in her inventory, which is normally hidden. So now we can "unequip" her default clothes like any other clothes.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Typical Bethesda rushing games for release with zero concern for quality.

I had my reservations, now its just ridiculous how fkn bad Bethesda is at playtesting their own games.

I mean, come the fck on Todd, you got lady running in leather jacket and skinny jeans on frozen planet surface, smth wrong in your head?

I gave Sarah a Chamelon space suit so she could sneak around with me, but Andreja has sneak at a level to do it and a much better weapon skill with her 3 in particle beams.
