Starfield is a dissapointment!
Like many have already mentioned the very dissapointing state of the game, with some perfect examples, I feel the need to push and support it even further, to make absolutely clear, that we do not take it easily getting exploited by lies, scams, holding back relevant informations or glorifying a obviously substandard game, simply to generate more revenue which seems to become a modern standard in the gaming industry.

Before I go on, I absolutely don't hate Bethesda or Mr. Todd Howard, I'm one of the biggest Bethesda fanboys ever to exist with over 2,3k hours alone in Skyrim and entirely more on console, back then when Oblivion and Fallout 3 got released, which were one of the best RPG games ever made. But I don't want to bring up the past, because the gaming industry is evolving in a atrocious and unacceptable direction.

And here we are with Starfield, a game that was hyped up to the space (Pun intended) and eagerly awaited by so many passionate gamers like me who couldn't get Starfield out of his mind, dreaming about the possibilities this game would offer notably after the Fallout 76 disaster, because honestly who would want to crush their reputation a second time? Well as it seems Bethesda did it again, which is unquestionably heartbraking, especially for people who believed immensely in Starfield. The core issues of this game has already been pointed out, but I will go ahead and summarize it real quick.

Definetely, the biggest issue is simply, that the game feels like a directely out of the box patterned game without any true passion to it, without the feeling of a immersive open world RPG, mainly attributed to the factors that you are not able to orbit around planets, not being able to land nor lift up from planets by yourself, it's more a loading screen or cutscene simulator than anything else, navigating in space is basically useless since you can fast travel anywhere, as well as on the ground, and those are fairly important aspects for a space exploration RPG.

Immersion seems to get totally lost in this game, the planets seem very dull, the points of interests on planets are not really interesting and show to have all the same pattern. Analysing objectives is even super plain, looting makes very less fun, because weapons and gear seem to be uninteresting while the weight capacity is a farce, not to mention the 2 Stamina bars (CO2 and O2), which slows you effectively down (but kinda hilarious). The NPC's are kinda out of place without any meaningful existence or animations to make them seem to be more interesting, AI (also companions) in general are behaving somehow unfitting aswell. The story seems to be totally irrelevant and straight boring, compared to other gamers, like it was quickly thought out to alteast have a main story in the game, which doesn't immerse me like I would have loved to.

The performance and graphics are really questionable, I play on a 4090 OC with i9 1300k, and the game runs only "fine", with some fps drops here and there (and max 120fps on high settings), for example when zooming in and out of the scope, like why? And the graphics seem to be from years of the past, and not appropiate for modern games (although this is something I don't really mind, just the performance).

You could point out even more like the skill system etc. but the message should already be clear. The start of the game felt really inviting and promising but the more you play the more you get the "thats not the game I wanted or was assured to us" feeling. There are without a doubt enough good things about the game too but they simply go under.

Starfield feels very much like a remade Fallout 4 in space version, maybe the game will get better at some point later in the game, thats to be wait out, but if the beginning is already poorly I may doubt it. I tried really hard to love it but it just doesn't seem to be the game many people acutally wanted (once again, and yes even No Man's Sky has already evolved into a fantastic space exploration game).

There will be enough people who will disagree and yes I get your standpoint, you don't want to get your immersion or your value for the game ruined, and try to counteract, but this is mostly generalized, how the gaming industries acts nowadays.

With all that being said this is not ment to be hateful towards the game or anyone else, but this kind of concept seems to be pushed harder in the gaming industry and it's to us to deceide to make a change. This game would be totally fine for a rather unknown company (especially considered the price) or indie company but this is not what should be accepted from Bethesda, one of the biggest gaming companies worldwide, and I write that because I love this company, but it fails to impress over and over again.

I hope everyone else enjoys the game.

This game screams i was heavily developed during the pandemic, remote work from home in my jams jams, sipping overpriced coffee while binge watching Netflix 24/7 and doing bare minimum work on a multi-million project known as Starfield because you know crunch aka hard work is a bad thing now. I noticed a lot of game development suffered immensely during the kungflu. Explains why everything in this game feels so disjointed and disconnected it's because the people working on the game were not even in the same room communicating with one another, you miss out on a lot of creative nuance that you get when you interact face to face with your peers. Just my two cents though, enjoy!

Absolute top notch comment here, also super hilarious, made me laugh, you are totally right, million dollar game , 8 years in development, and basic features missing. Yep the game reflects their "creative nauances" :D

Fallout 76 came out years before the pandemic and shows many of the same issues.

Thats a good point, I think it was because it was their first MMO type game, and they werent ready for it, so same with Starfield, apparently they are not expierenced enough to create such complex game.

OP,
I agree on all points, although I had no performance issues, but I have a beast of a computer. I was in the game playing and I got to about the 1 hour 40 minute mark, and I was like... I'm not having fun. This blows. Refunded. This is the best they could do? D4 - Fail. Now this. I have no expectations for Fallout 5. I am sure it will suck. They are way too concerned about being politically correct than making a good game, and it shows.

They did crush their reputation once they released Redfall.

Folks, do yourself a favor, and play Spacebourne 2.

I have no idea, never played 76, i'm just going off my experience as a small developer during the pandemic. The remote work thing really hindered a lot of creativity for me and some of my colleagues, granted some people absolutely loved sitting at home and working but many of us felt disabled and disconnected from our peers thus making work harder but yea i'm not looking to debate or get into a pissing contest, just pointing out that remote work doesn't work for a lot of people and it's shows in Starfield where things feel disjointed and disconnected. It's like they had all the systems in place but lacked the nuance to tack it all together in a meaning and natural way.

Yep same, normally with previous titles I got hook like INSTANTLY, couldn't let go anymore of the game, but with Starfield everything feels just a loop, loading screens, cutscreens, nothing interesting to explore, ship is basically useless because you don't use it etc. etc. They are only interested in doing revenues, I will distance myself from Bethesda, for sure.

Damn, I don't even want to mention Redfall, but they didn't develop it they just published it.

60 bucks for a game that will be carried by modders again ?
urgh no thanks
even 20 is too generous for Starfield

yeah modders will no doubt bring some life into this game. BGS probably knows that and decided they could release an unfinished game because "hey, modders will fix all the bugs and add the cool content"

Haha, imagine they would truely think that, "It's our DNA to leave bugs in a game".
