Mars - what do I need to wear to not die
Landing on mars, 2 different space suits with helmets and the atmosphere is killing me, have to book it to shelter.

WHat do I need to wear to not have this happen?

Just making sure... you did have a backpack equipped with the oxygen tank, right?

I haven't been on Mars, but on a barren planet and two moons one was radiated, one was like 280+ degrees celsius and one deep frozen. All three gave me a warning that my suit protection was insufficient, but I didn't experience any harmful effects. The Constellation watch had a meter slowly ticking down though so I guess one has to be back in a shelter before that runs out. Had plenty of time to look around though.

that would be it(oxygen packs that aren't labled oxygen packs, boost pack thingy etc) not used to bathesda games, which im read to believe they don't hand hold you nor give you any tips on 'hey your space suit doesn't have a oxygen tank' in the warning message you are dying from.

Mainly confusing me due to me being on planets early game as is, and no dying, till I get to mars, so nothing was said about needing to equip something new.

Found it, seems the pack came off somehow when I was switching suits around.

This is weird. I haven't suffered any problems with extreme conditions on the planets.
Only one has been when I've stood on top of a vent.
Is this bugged?

How did you re-equip the pack? This happened to me and there is no section for packs and I can't find this anywhere.

There is a section for packs. But in the Starfield inventory cathegories seem to disappear as long as you do not pocess any items from it. At least for explosives like grenades that's the case. I suspect you might have accidentally sold your pack. You can loot new ones from enemies wearing space suits, find them in loot chests or buy them overpriced at vendors.

I don't think it is. As I said the watch (left bottom of the screen) has this sort of bar at the top that depletes slowly while your protection is insufficient. I haven't tried going all the way to empty but once the bar has not that much left the watch starts emitting a beeping noise so it's probably warning you of severe consequences.

Never sell or drop a suit, helmet or back pack if you play on PC. At least when you are first starting. I tried selling those nice enemy space suits and somehow lost all my suits becoming stranded when arriving at Mars for Constellation initial missions. Did not find any way to buy, loot or steal a replacement suit at Marrs or continuing from there. Going to either retrace back to Alpha Centauri or restart. Before departing Alpha Centauri, make certain you have a working Space Suit, Helmet and Pack.

As with much sci-fi, you have to suspend a little belief. Most of the planets we go to would kill us even with suits on. Some would kill you along with your ship if you tried to land. The longest a probe has lasted on Venus was two hours. Of course, our probes don't have magical electromagnetic space shields so there goes that belief again.

Lots of things are suspended, Real suits would have power and air limits. The list goes on. That's why the immersion complainers bother me, because there is immersion breaking everywhere in almost every game. You have to have balanced ability to play or it's no fun.

also there is yet another bug here: the game can visually show you wearing a full suit but you could have taken a piece off. Make sure all 3 pieces (helmet, suit, and pack) are equipped with a slash mark in your list of items (slash in the upper right corner means equipped).

Shops in Cydonia have space suits and helmets.
