7900XTX constant crashing in New Atlantis
I was reading more other players playing fine-ish with nvidia gpu, I'm constantly crashing with 5900x, 7900xtx, 64gb in New Atlantis, to the point I have to:
save the game every 20 steps made, then eventually crashed, reload, loop.......
started to wonder if the issue is more about the 7900xtx rather than the game

Considering to return the 7900XTX, don't get me wrong, I used to love ATi/AMD from AGP era until I went for GTX1080..... but their driver software is just not in the same league...

thanks, I tried that one but unfortunately doesn't work for me...

Update to the latest driver. I use the 7900XT and I had crashes under the older driver but absolutely none under the newest driver. If it's still crashing, make sure your temps are good and also that you're using a stable tuning such as the default rather than an undervolt or OC

I'm using the same gpu and having no problems playing in 4K at 60 fps on ultra settings. It isn't the card. The game is supposedly cpu intensive, so that could be the problem. Or a graphics setting. But it is definitely not the card itself.

well mine is 5900x.....
I have all the settings at default but will definitely try to enable/disable some and trial and error it out

Had the same issue with my 7900xtx... amd released new drivers that improve performance with starfield... once i installed that i havent had a crash since

I get crashes too (with my 7900XTX) if Dynamic Resolution is ON. The crashes get resolved if it is set to OFF, at least in my case.

1. The 7900xtx is faulty
2. Memory and/or CPU not 100% stable
3. Your PSU not able to handle the 7900xtx

1 is unlikely, but possible, I had a 4090 give up on me after just 4-5 months (faulty VRAM) so it does happen.
2 is possible since a faster GPU will push both CPU and memory harder thus "small" hardware issues that caused crashes once every few months with the 3080 now causes crashes often in certain loads. Had this happen in a system that I upgraded from a 2070s to a 3080, the tiny instability I didn't know I had was enough to make certain games constantly crash.
To see if the PSU is an issue the easiest way is if you can try another PSU and see if the problems go away. Also make sure you use one cable for each connector on the GPU, the 7900xtx could have issues with some PSU's if you connect it using the pigtails.
A great tool for testing GPU, CPU and memory stability is OCCT (the VRAM test in OCCT is what helped me find the issue with my 4090).
Hope this can help you come a bit closer to a solution.

I have yet to put the 3080 back and try
the 7900XTX works fantastic in all other games I play... The Division 2, F1 23, CP2077, Frostpunk, FIFA, NBA, Witcher 3 to name a few....

The benchmarks I ran when I got the card last week all returns good results, the scores aligns with those of similar conifgs

For PSU, I don't think that may be the cause since mine is a 1000w and uses the same cables the 3080 uses but I will surely OCCT it later on, thanks mate!

I installed it the day it released... didn't help in my case sadly
I will DDU and reinstall it later and see if it solves the issue

I have it off all the time....

I have the same problem.
Random crashes sometimes after a couple minutes. Sometimes I get to play an hour before it crashes. Always ends in AMD Driver Timout Error.
I also have the 7900 xtx specifically bought for the occasion of playing starfield with perfect graphics.
I tried all the usual tips.
-updated drivers
-Turned off dynamic resolution and fsr.
-Turned off every additional setting in the AMD software.
-LImited fps to 60.
-Tried playing with low graphics settings.
-Uninstalled graphics driver and reinstalled.
-verified game files.

I can play other graphic intense games just fine. For example Cyberpunk with ultra graphics works no problem.

I can only hope there will be a fix to this issue soon.

hi, exactly the same case.... bought the 7900xtx for the game bundle, I tried all of those you did and I even uninstalled and reinstalled (redownloaded) the whole game but crashes the same. I just played cyberpunk with everything other than RT to the max and was enjoying every moment of it

I prefer the AMD drivers actually. Much easier to work with. I'm running the 7900xt and have no issues in New Atlantis or elsewhere.

They did just release a driver update claiming an up to 30% performance increase in Starfield for the 7900xtx/xt. Have you installed that? Maybe it will help.
ingosupercute Sep 2, 2023 @ 5:35pm
The only common ground so far was both Ventra and Quecksilver having upgraded to the 7900xtx just recently. Other than that there seems to be no correlation between people not having issues and people having issues. Maybe if the two of you could find more things you got in common? Are ya'll using the same manufacturer by any chance?

Ohhh I haven't gotten that one yet. Was still on 23.8.1 - will grab it right away for better New Atlantis thanks!

I have the same setup 7900xtx 5900x 64gb of ram.
Have you considered you PSU could be the issue?!

I have a platinum 1000 watt PSU for that very reason I have no issues, I have my 7900XTX overclocked it can pull up to 430watts at times in Starfield as in Cyberpunk 2077.

disable undervolt
install new drivers
